Q: Is it Male rj11 and female rj45? cant tell from the picture ?

The cable is a male rj11 to male rj45. The rj45 end plugs into a female to female rj45 adapter.

Q: I purchased this to connect my rj11 bt outlet to router's 8p rj45 internet port. the rj45 adaptor i received has 4p, not the 8 shown? is this normal?

As far as I can say (and this is based on the ones I purchased) the adaptor has one socket connected to the short cable terminated with the RJ11 plug and the second socket which takes the RJ45 plug/ethernet cable to the router/firewall etc. I have just used two of these back to back to use an existing ethernet run to link from the master socket to the vdsl modem which is next to the firewall. I do have a number of other RJ45 to RJ45 joiners and these all have 8 pins in them as they are connecting two Cat6 cables.

Q: Can i use this to add a phone to a room that only has Rj45 can i make external calls ?

I don't think that this will help you to do this. Unless the phone is a networked (VoIP type) phone, when you would still need a VoIP server of some sort.

Q: Can you use a pair of these on the dsl output of a bt microfilter to extend via ethernet cable? it's not working here.

I would expect that this would work from the microfilter output, however I don't have external microfilters (it's built in to the master plug) so I don't have experience of this.
