Q: A silly question - is it possible to attach this to small peices of fabric using a hair straightener, or would that cause a fire? I have no iron.

I have done this with hemming tape, straighteners work great to atatch two pieces of fabric in a pinch. Saying that I would only use cheap straighteners dont even try with ghd type ceramic ones which get very hot very fast also make sure you sandwich with old fabric to protect your straighteners.

Q: Is it strong enough to make storage bags for kids toys?

I'd say yes but quilting a few lines through the main panels would help to add extra strength and durability. Also if you fuse it to a canvas/upholstery type of fabric it would be stronger than using cotton. xxx

Q: can I use this to repair a tear in fabric?

Yes. I have done so by fusing to reverse of material and then "darning " over the front of the tear by sewing machine. Hope this works for you.

No, not really - I use it to reinforce bags but they're still 'soft'. The best product I have used for a really sturdy form is fusible buckram, which I employed in the making of curtain pelmets - this I purchased from John Lewis (about 10 years ago). I hope this helps?
