Saponify - 2Lb Ultra Clear Soap Base, Unscented Base, Easy to Use Glycerin Soap Base for Soap Making

UPDATE: since I couldn’t find another clear soap base that was non- coconut oil I’ve had to continue working around this one. I think I’ve finally found the best method of melting this without getting clumps - use a double broiler!! And leave it alone for as long as possible before stirring, when you do stir don’t fold or you’ll introduce bubbles, just go in a circular motions until everything is melted. Another recommendation, cut it into smaller cubes, about 1/2” instead of 1”. It melts easier and more evenly. I’ll never use the microwave to melt this soap base again. So much smoother with a double broiler.Previous review: I don’t know if this is beginner’s mistake or it really is the product itself. The first batch I made I followed the instructions to melt in 30sec bursts. While I was able to pour it, it poured quite thick and became goopy VERY quick which made me think I had possibly burnt it. The 2nd batch I did it in a smaller 10sec burst and somehow still burnt it. I changed to 5sec bursts and checked the temperature constantly and it took what felt like forever (pictured). Normally M&P soap is said to not exceed 120-130F or it will burn and become thick and goopy, hard to work with, but this base will not melt in that range yet going over appears to burn it easily. I haven’t found a happy method to melting this in the microwave. I’ve wasted 2 lbs already trying to figure out how to best melt this. Sucks because this base has the ingredients I want.Also when I weighed each block they ranged from 0.93-0.95 lbs so not a full pound. Disappointed with the bit of shortage but I assume it could be from the product shrinking in storage although it shouldn’t have.

I ordered a variety of soap bases from Saponify for my kids and I to make soap for the first time. I had a snafu with my Amazon order, but the Saponify team was remarkable to work with and the products were wonderful. I will definitely order from them again because they take such great steps to make sure their product is as sustainable for the environment and healthy for skin as possible- perfect for my kids! I have severe asthma, and a lot of the scents that are added to soaps set it off. So, in despiration, I bought some of this soap base and a couple of molds.It lathers up very nicely as a soap, cleans very well, and the best thing? It's truly scent-free! There's no scent at all unless I add some; I tend to use a tiny bit of tea tree oil in my soaps. I also like to add used espresso grounds and oatmeal as exfolaints, and my skin feels so good because of that! It's really hard to find good scent-free soaps with exfoliants, at a decent price. With this base? I know that I'll always have a great soap to use.I will definitely be buying this again.

I make Jewelweed soap every year for itchies and normally use a different brand but thought I'd try this brand since The Nerdy Farm Wife recommends it. It melted like it should and poured easy while still warm, made good soap. I would buy again.

This has a very plastic like consistency. I would not order again.

I used this product for soap making. Easy to chop into pieces and melts beautifully. I will be buying more of this product in the future.
