Good Spring steel kit. As Others have stated, Heating and cooling (quenching) is super important for the spring steel to keep it shape (the part you make to replace the broken one) Lots of steel left over after project is complete. Well worth having metal kit on hand.

I used these sheets to create custom flat springs for a craft project. They come pre-tempered, so you need to first anneal them to make them soft and workable, and then you can re-harden them by quenching and heat-treating. I annealed up to cherry-red with an acetylene torch, and then allowed to air-cool to room temperature. At that point, it was soft enough to bend by hand. Once shaped, you can harden and temper the steel by bringing it back up to a shade above cherry-red with a torch and then dropping it into room-temperature canola oil. **Be careful, as the thin steel can easily cool down while transferring it to the canola oil -- it must be glowing red when it touches the oil and you should hear a sizzle. I heated the spring on top of a heavy steel file to ensure it maintained its temperature.** At this point, the spring should resist deformation and will be very brittle, so it'll snap if you bend it too far. To temper the spring, put it in your home oven at 500 degrees F for about an hour, allow to cool to room temperature, then put it back in the oven for another hour and allow to cool again. If you had sanded it before hitting the oven, it should turn back to its original blue color and you now have a perfect flat spring!

Just wish there was more size choices.

I like the multiple sized that this spring steel stock comes in. I used the thickest on the make a flat spring and it worked great. I was able to make the spring without softening and hardening again.

Has the thickness I needed. Sheared easily. If not springy enough, I can harden and temper if needed. The remainder can be used a shims.
