Just brilliant
Just the perfect MP3 player for people who actively and intensively listen to their music.First off - and most important for me, is the marathon battery life, micro-USB port (hello Sony? Apple?), 32Gb+ storage and easy to use interface. The form factor is also a big plus: very attractive and refreshing by today's standard (but rather boring looking back at the 20004-2009 era).I'm not a self proclaimed audiophile but this device is clearly more able to produce better sounds than my phone. Instruments are more pronounced and can be heard apart from each-other - even in not-that-high-quality files. The different audio profiles are also very useful, and changing between them is a wizz. All in all the perfect portable audio playing device for me, although the price tag seems rather high considering that I bought pretty much the same MP3 player back in 2007 for the same price. Guessed prices would've gone down, wouldn't we?

Wonderful little music player for real music enthusiasts.
Finally replacing my 12 year old iRiver MP3 player which had superb sound quality when compared to others.Having shopped around on and off in recent years for a replacement without anything catching my eye, I stumbled onto Hi-Res players. I was intrigued as I am a bit of an audiophile but not having the extravagant budget that the high-end ones require, I thought i'd have to go back to the regular mp3 players which I didn't like much as most tend to have video playing features which detracts from the more serious audio aspects I look for. Then I found this little beauty. I knew the name of Cowon from years ago as I had one of their tiny 2GB players 15 years ago and loved it for what it was. So I knew to expect good sound and build. I didn't however expect to find something so small with incredible battery life and lovely features that only enhance the audio joy this little player makes. True it does not have bluetooth, wifi, video capabilities that many would expect in a "smartphone" obsessed society. But that's the beauty of this player. It's no frills and just about the music. I didn't want to listen to music on my phone, the sound quality is just not there by a long shot.It would be like watching a great film on a 3inch 640X360 pixel screen. You can follow the plot and say you've seen it, but you'll not have truly experienced the details that the film makers will have intended.I've not tried the high end Hi-Res players yet, but the Plenue D feels like I'm listening to music near enough the way the musicians crafted their art for us to experience.Absolutely love this player. My favourite buy of the year. Was worth waiting for a music player that really hit the spot.

Superior sound inferior UI
Having previously owned the Cowon S9 I knew exactly what to expect from this player, an unbelievable sounding player and it didn't dissappoint. The sound from this player has to be heard to be believed. Needless to say the high res albums sparkle with clarity and a wide stereo field thanks to the remarkable jet effect eq which have many excellent presets and four customizable ones (see below). However flac and mp3s also benefit and no ipod or phone can come close to this aural nirvana. It doesn't come with headphones because you will probably just throw them out and use your own high end ones. I am using a pair of Creative Aurvana Live 2.Apart from being a great sounding player there is not much else to it. There is no bluetooth or nfc, no video or picture viewer like there was on my old Cowon. The UI is typical Cowon rubbish. Its counter intuitive and scrolling is laggy. If you have used Cowon before you will be used to it but if you are coming from Apple or Sony then prepare for ten year old technology. It does however have a playlist function, something Cowon struggled with for years to get right. You can save ten playlists on the player but I recommend using a program called "Playlist Creator" on your pc to create as many as you like, the Plenue will recognise m3u files once saved into the root drive. As my first foray into high res audio it is a winner. I have my phone to do all the other things. If you do decide to go for it I would recommend programming in these settings into jet effect for crystal clear wide stereo field with punchy bass.Eq 3 -2 3 6 7Bbe = 8 machbass = 33d surround = 3mp enhance = onSe = offNow sit back and enjoy

Good like, with issues though
Good player, long battery life, sound is alright, depends on yer headphones. I wish display was organized better - pretty big screen is mostly displaying audio file thumbnail image with controls and text info annoyingly small. After few months the internal storage became not accessible - I can still play files stored there, but my computers (both mac and pc) cannot see the internal volume when connected via usb. So I cannot add or remove files. The only way I can edit the players playlist is using external sd card.

Fab unit - am very pleased
I am very pleased with my new player, it even makes 128kb mp3s sound amazing. I found the UI straight forward to use. The only thing I stumbled on was the format of the 128GB micro SD card (the unit requires Fat32, exfat won't work. For anything over 32GB the standard Windows format tool will not allow a fat32 format, so 3rd party formatting tools are required that support formatting Fat32 for devices over 32GB. There are plenty around, and easy to use). Headphones do not come with the unit. I would recommend shelling out on some decent headphones.

This product doesn't want to be on.
This product is programmed to shut itself off. It does to want to be on. Ever. None of the power settings do what you want them to. Forever shutting itself off, designed also to fool you into shutting it off with its ridiculous operating system. And also takes a while to power itself on. You will spend half the time you use this product trying to get it switched on. What would otherwise be a decent DAP is ruined
