Maybe I was expecting something different. This reads pretty well like a primer for someone entering photography covering all the bases including equipment and going on to look at specific photographic situation that one might meet as a pro. and giving potted solutions to handling those situations. However it all seems a little too trite for my taste. Most of the photo examples fail to set my boat afloat, though they do a job, of sorts. No, I couldn't do any better - or even as well - but I read books to learn how to be better not how to remain mundane! I cannot help feeling that the title, which suggested that the book was about something that I felt I needed to learn about, was wrapped around the wrong book. I didn't feel that Learned a whole lot about styling a photo shoot and am unsure that i needed a book to tell me that models need to be booked in advance or that it is necessary to scout out locations before the day of the shoot. Buy this book secondhand for a couple of quid and you'll not feel cheated.

The huge problem with the book is the text: awfully faded, pale-grey colour smallish print on white paper. "Pro Tips" are printed in a tiny/micro-grey text on grey background. Illustrations/photos has microscopical descriptions printed next them. In half an hour you will have a headache reading the book. I had to use magnifying glass to read through it. Mainly I was looking for an interior photography, well, there is 3 pages out 192 in the book dedicated (in brief) to the subject. But there is lots of pages dedicated to photoshop tricks and how to convert poor quality pictures into a jewel. If you have an eye, and able to catch a moment you won't need photoshop to perk your pictures up.

Halfway through but already reaping the benefits. Superb colour pictures, concise and clear text and useful checklists including kit/settings. Great.

I found out about this book from joining a Facebook group run by Brett Harkness.In truth, he is a highly inspirational photographer who seems to be able to get the best out of the situation and the best out of other peoples skills.This book covers a vast range of topics and subjects with quality tips regardless of your skill level or background.Without a doubt it's the best photography book I own as it's easy to understand - full of amazing images and simple guides/tips that'll help you without bogging you down in a sea of text!
