Core (25th Anniversary

A Good Start
Beautifully packaged reissue, really good job by Rhino. STP would get better, much better, but this is a strong documentation of stage 1. There's little here that longtime fans won't have already but a complete recording of Only Dying plus a cleaned up Castaic show are worthy. The remaster appears to be almost the same as the 2000 DVD Audio release, well worth having although, as the demos show, the band's sound was already fully formed. All in all, I'm very happy with this and hope we get something similar for all the later and better releases up to 2001.

Homerun allowed by first batter faced...
My title might sound the wrong way around, but I remember reading how critics pigeonholed STP and their first album back in the day, having the audacity to come out with an album like this, with this sound and that voice and NOT be from Seattle? Clearly Grunge was now spreading all over the world! Welcome after and so on.Well, this was NOT my first experience with STP, that would be Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop, their 3rd who when it came out snared me in with the fact the cover looked so cool and the guy in the record shop told me what this was (I dind't have MTV at the time). Yet, for some dumb reason I bought it on CD... 90's eh?Anyhow, I have of course been listening to Core for the better part of a quarter decade now, and allthough I have spend tons of additional money on deluxe editions from Nirvana and even more so Pearl Jam, I hadn't planned on getting these anniversary sets from STP. But then I have gotten more and more into Vinyl, upgraded my stereo and then there was that day a few weeks ago when work, customers, the numbers of days to the weekend got to me and I went and bought of all things a Tower of Power album AND the deluxe edition of Purple.I had such a lovely time listening to and reading and looking at the Purple set, that it convinced some part of me, "you have to get the Core set too, before it is too late!" And so today after another tiresome day at work even though pay day is still a while off, I went asked for it, as I couldn't find it, and hey, recordguy had it, hidden away. It was his last copy.Just opened it, looked at all the photos started reading and put on the vinyl now. I am so happy, ha ha. I love this. I actually watched the remaining band memebers talk about this set on youtube yesterday, all the pride they have for this their first record to this day. Why wouldn't they? Looking forward to the B-sides and listening to 5 channel DVD. One question, is the record industry giving up on blu-ray? Bit odd, with playstation, and 4D and what not I have several more blu-ray players around the house than pure DVD players.Anyhow, I love this set, I am so glad I bought it. Best part, I love the MTV unplugged set, never heard it before.Bring on Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop!

Classic album!
I have knocked one star off because my copy didn’t come with the Plush 7” single. That said, this is a brilliant LP and cd set! I purchased the original Core cd in the week it came out, (at a record shop that no longer exists) the accompanying cds just make this set better and better, especially the Unplugged cd, well worth it.Highly recommended even if you don’t get the Plush 7” single

A 90's rock classic.
As a fan of 90's rock including the big four of this era, I knew I would like this album and have been listening to it a lot to collect my thoughts on it. On first listen it reminds me of a cross between pearl jam and alice in chains, its quite impressive how the band managed to adapt to the sudden change in sound of 90's rock to such success in a short amount of time, The included demos b-sides and rarities offer a glimpse into rough cuts of a few tracks,I feel that the raw sound of the demos are more authentic than included on the album, in some cases honest and better for it in my opinion, some songs off the main album could of been shortened by a minute or two and over stay their welcome but that's the only criticism I have about the album as a whole,Overall very pleased with the purchase and a high recommendation from me to others looking for such an album.
