Brilliant gadget!
I've tried garlic presses in the past and found them fiddly, difficult to clean and (in one case) simply too flimsy to do the job properly. But this one is excellent! Easy to use. Easy to clean. Strong enough to do the job properly, without risk of slipping or of the handles being bent out of shape. Definitely recommended. I would give it more than 5 stars, if I could!

Great, simple garlic crusher
I had a plastic one of these which unfortunately broke. This all metal version is much sturdier and very simple to use and clean - just rock it over the garlic cloves and scrape resulting "chopped" garlic from the rocker. Some little pieces stick in the grid but can usually be loosened with a sharp tap or the point of a knife. It's also easy to clean and any residual pieces rinse out o problem. A great, simple and stylish kitchen gadget.

What a great idea
I have been really pleased with this garlic rocker and much prefer it to my traditional garlic press. You can rock all of the garlic through the holes without leaving behind that horrible meshed sheet that you have to pick out of a traditional press, or rerpress the bits that have ridden up the sides. It's easy to clean and most of the time any remaining bits of garlic that you haven't scooped out fall off under a running tap and only on occasion do you have to fiddle around with a fork end or knife to eject garlic stuck in a hole. The shape of the rocker means that the crushed garlic is easily held on the rocker and doesn't drop off when transporting to the wok etc, and it is easily stored in the drawer taking up little space. My only criticism is that i normally have to do one clove of galic at a time and would prefer to be a able to do two, although in this respect i guess no different from most standard garlic presses. Well made and dishwasher friendly.

Stylish, Elegant, Better than other Crushers
I bought this after our traditional 'can-opener' style garlic crusher finally broke. This is a much simpler design, much more elegant and takes up less room in the kitchen draw. The beauty of the Joseph and Joseph Garlic Rocker is that you know it's not going to break and will stand the test of time. The only downside is that it can be a bit fiddly to get all the garlic out of the mesh and requires a bit of poking with a sharp pointy knife. The same goes for cleaning. Bits of garlic tend to get wedged and stay trapped and you have to clean with a toothbrush or poke out the remaining garlic. Apart from this it's a great piece of kit, stylish, simple and elegant.

Best garlic press ever
I am an avid fan of Joseph Joseph items - I read the reviews before buying this thinking that it may not live up to expectations. I have marked difficulties with dexterity and find fine chopping a major problem. The first time I used this press was to see if it could chop my usual 4 garlic cloves with ease. I was amazed, I removed the skin from the cloves and gently "rocked" over them and found that all four chopped with ease into wonderfully small useable pieces. I ran the edge of my knife underneath the press and all the unusable remaining pieces came off with ease. I have since used it to chop garlic without removing the skin first and it poses no problems at all but I do prefer to remove the skin for my ease - there is little unusable garlic remaining. Another innovative and highly functional piece of kitchen equipment from Joseph Joseph - well worth the price - it is not expensive and will be the last type of garlic press/chopper that I buy.

A worthwhile kitchen gadget
I'll start of by saying that I'm not much of a gadget fan. For something to deserve drawer or shelf space in my kitchen it has to deliver on ease of use, quality of the task it performs and ease of cleaning. I'm a keen cook so find myself most days chopping garlic. Whilst not the most onerous task in the world I nevertheless wasn't keen on the daily garlic chopping/crushing/slicing activity. Also, I don't like smelling of garlic. So I took the unusual step of buying a gadget with only one designated use - and I'm really pleased I did. The rocker looks beautiful ( I got the all steel one) and it has turned one of my least favourite tasks into a doddle. I now start with preparing the garlic because it's so easy. Unlike other reviewers who didn't like the item I find that a few drops of olive oil over the cutting surface results in almost no bits of garlic stuck in the holes. I also find that a quick scrape out and a second going over results in an almost paste like result which is useful for recipes requiring a paste. It is also easy to prepare several large garlic cloves simultaneously as you just keep on going without having to open, close, scrape etc as with a garlic press. Cleaning is usually a tap on the chopping board, a quick rinse under the tap and a few seconds with a washing up brush if needed before being popped into the dishwasher to remove the olive oil. My mother in law, who suffers from arthritis in her hands used it when visiting and commented how much easier it was to use than a garlic press - and easier to clean. Unlike a press which requires hand strength, the rocker uses your arm strength and downward pressure which comes from your upper body. You can use the palms of your hands rather than your fingers to operate the device meaning that arthritic hands can operate it with much greater ease. All in all I would recommend this product and has already bought a couple as gifts.

Disappointed, more work than I thought
I'm a big fan of Joseph Joseph products. Some I like better than others, but this is the first one I felt let me down. First off it's not a garlic press if anyone was misguided into thinking so. You won't get the purée consistency. This wasn't a problem for me as I wasn't necessarily looking for one as I already have an excellent press. But a friend of mine saw it and thought that's how the garlic would come out, so I thought it best to put that in the review. On the positive side, it does produce these lovely round balls of garlic that are great for stir fries or any dishes where you want the garlic to really stand out (I use my press more for sauces). This is basically why I bought it and still use it. I wanted something that would make fast work out of, essentially, mincing garlic. It also cleans up really easily and unlike other garlic devices there aren't multiple parts to get in between to clean. And it does take the smell of garlic off your hands for the most part. Aside from a few stubborn pieces of garlic on occasion, just a quick run under the tap (turned to full pressure) will get this clean. Speaking of stubborn pieces, the biggest con with this is the fact that the when you put a clove of garlic underneath it the first half to 2/3 goes through beautiful, but then you're left with a flat disc of left over garlic that you have to rearrange and repress to try and get through. Even then, you're still left with a thin layer you have rip apart manually if you want to not be wasteful and use all the garlic. And even then I still ALWAYS have to get a chopstick out to poke through several bits stuck in the holes. Another downside is that you can only really mince 1 clove at a time (my other mincer, the Garlic Twist, can fit 2-3 depending on the size). I tried 2 once, and the rocker doesn't cope well with going over 2 different rounded surfaces. Also, forget it with smaller cloves. You'll just end up with a juicy garlic mess. So I end up mincing them with a knife. All these cons combined means I only use it when I need less than 3 cloves of garlic and/or I don't feel like doing a lot of washing up. It's a shame as others seem to really like it and I love the brand. But for me, it's ALMOST more trouble than it's worth.

Brilliant - and more robust than the plastic one.
Very easy to use- no fiddling about trying to get the garlic out, and so easy to clean properly after use. I did own one of the Joseph Joseph ones with the with plastic moulding before this one, and it cracked, so I bought a metal one, and it's great: still going strong a couple of years later - the recent purchase was for a friend.
