I bought this as used like new. It arrived and really is excellent. I wouldn’t know that it wasn’t new. The story is excellent. Really amusing and my grandson who is three loved it. It’s pretty much a story of a witch, a ghost and a troll who want to scare a little girl and how that doesn’t really go to plan for them. Good wins over the baddies. The illustrations are wonderful and the rhyming verse flows well. It’s actually a real pleasure to read to my grandson and he was captivated. A great book and I’d definitely recommend. I’m happy to read this again and again which is exactly what happened!

There is just something about the combination of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler that means they create wonderful children's books. We own all of their works, and this one is just as good as the rest. The story from Julia is superbly written, and Axel's pictures are spectacular - and as always there is a hidden Gruffalo.

As all of the Julia Donaldson books, this one fails to disappoint. My daughter absolutely loves it. The illustration is amazing.

I bought this book for a child aged four to listen to. If you read a book she or he will be reading for themselves in a couple of years, you are using and modeling the use of the language of early readers, this strengthens the basis for reading success. The rhymes help familiarise your child with common word endings, part of the ground- work for reading success too. By four years old your child can already read the story by following the pictures. these pictures are designed to support the story as it is being told.You can't go wrong with Julia Donaldson.
