Not sure yet
I have not had a successful burn to disc yet, after 4 tries. That's not to say there is anything wrong with the burner, it may be user error. It appears to be well made and recognized almost instantly by my computer. I will update as I learn more while trying to work with this burner.

orico 100 gb bluray player
I have heard of people who buy bluray drives thinking they can play movies. Well I discovered that is not as easy when it comes to commercially encrypted ones. I got mine working with VLC on standard bluray disc's using a W7 pc because I can. Titles such as Aliens with BD+ encryption require alot of extra lies if they actually work. It is suggested that you use Powerdvd. That is an option, but that is not compatible with all OS variants anymore. For me it is the DVD for the easiest most acceptable media for the win. Even for use on Windows 95 if you like. Aside from "Big Movie Mafia" being control freaks, the player works pretty good. If the drive dies I might put a new one inside it, or even a ssd.

What's with the rattle?
Ordered in August 2023, and arrived with a rattle inside like a BB is stuck in there. More like a small plastic part. You can't shake it out with the drive open either. Sent that one back for a replacement and the second one came with the exact same issue! No way to know if that will damage the unit in the future. The unit works, but how long that will last is a big unknown.

Doesn't work with Mac
Tried to burn and 100GB disc and the writer will not recognize the disc. It did recognize a 25GB disc. Tried contact tech support but since it is a CHINESE based company, communication is slow and difficult. This is typical of Amazon supported products. You may find them cheaper but they are of less quality and usually don't work at all.

Missing software, but prompt customer service
It worked great for CD & DVD, but as others noted it needs software to interact with Blu-ray disc. I knew this before buying so I can't fault Orico. I just gotta point out though, close to this price point most competitors include Blu-ray software. So why 5 stars if it's missing software? Anyone who specializes in building brands knows that customer service alone can float or sink a company. While the unit I received rattled out of the box; kinda sounded like a loose screw inside the casing, Orico customer service was prompt about replacing the unit. That was huge.

Rattling noise, but still graet
Another customer [quite a few] said this, or something similar: "arrived with a rattle inside like a BB is stuck in there. More like a small plastic part. " I was able to open the drive, and it fell out. However, I have been using it about 12 hours a day since I've gotten it, and have had no issues thus far. I did forget to change the region at first [it came set as region 2/Europe and I had to change it to region 1], but that was on me. While the rattling was concerning, and a piece falling out was questionable, I have had no issues yet, and for the price, I would even buy it again if I needed another for other computer.

It's on its way back!
DO NOT BUY. This product is shoddily made. the outer body was curved in by design as if someone sat on it! It doesnt work well with any program you try to use it on. do not waste your time. invest in something name brand.
