Manchester Orchestra...business as usual!
The band have delivered a solid , dependable performance.Perhaps not as exciting for me as Simple Math but eminently listenable and one that takes a few listens to 'get up to speed'. Like it!

Amazing from start to finish. A proper rock album. One of the greatest bands going at the moment. Check them out!

Riffs rather than subtlety
This is obviously the Manchester Orchestra's "Rock" album as it is laced with short sharp slabs of riffage rather than previous album Simple Math's more restrained and insidious sound. For all that I prefer the variety of that album, that's not to say that this album is at all bad. On the contrary, there is still a measure of offbeat lyricism in the quieter verses between the crunching choruses but when they go for these choruses you'd better watch out for the flying kitchen sinks. What I especially like about the album though is the immediacy and the stickability of the songs, every one a memorable toe tapping feast. There's little on here that could be described as excess as well, as only one of the eleven tracks comes in at over 4 minutes so we have a lean, mean guitar heavy machine. Just the job to blow away the cobwebs
