Q: Can you be perpendicular to target or does it require you to be in line with it?

"The definition of perpendicular: 1. at an angle of 90° to a given line, plane, or surface. The radar gun will not report the true speed of the object you are trying to read from a perpendicular angle, and may not read at all. If it reads there will be a huge cosine angle which will make the radar gun show a much slower speed. Cosine Error explained: The most common mistake made with all radars is trying to clock targets at angles. All radars should clock objects moving directly towards or away from the radar. Clocking at an angle with a stationary radar will result in angle error, and the radar will display a speed that is LOWER than the actual speed. In order to get accurate readings, the radar must be placed in the line of travel of the target. At slight angles, the error will be very small, however at larger angles, the error will be substantial. If you know the angle, you can calculate the actual speed by taking the radar reading and dividing by the cosine of the angle. For example a true speed of 55mph will display 39mph at a 45° angle. To calculate: if your angle is 45° degrees and the radar reads 39 mph. Take 39 mph and divide by the cosine of 45° (0.707) to get a true speed of 55 mph. If you radar shows 7mph and the angle is 45, take 7 and divide by the cosine of 45 degrees (0.707) to get a true speed of 10mph. BEWARE: This is a toy and has a HUGE 30% HIDDEN restocking fee

If you want an $300 radar gun that looks and feels like a toy this radar gun is for you. It is light weight and fragile. I received my first radar gun and it had visible cracks on the radar gun globe. It was also missing the tripod mounting hardware so I returned it and got another. When I got the second gun, Al at Radar Sports, told me I needed a special $36 dongle to make it work with the software. What a ripoff and disception. I bought the dongle online for less than $7. Unfortunately the second gun only worked after a call with a technical person, and then it did not perform as I needed. The software is clumsy and has is not intuitive. It has functions that do not apply for Radar Gun usage but are visible and can be selected. The text does not fit on the screen, and parts of the operation are not intuitive. So, I asked to return the Radar Gun. That is when I got the run around and learned of a more than 30% restocking fee. Incredible. Do not buy from Al at Radar Sports in New York.... He likes you until you want to return the product. My advise is to look around and spend a little more. When you spend $300 it should not be a toy and should be returnable in this day and age without hidden and enormous restocking fees.
