Great book
Very useful book. I own eight 400 day clocks. I bought all of them in non-working condition. With this book and The Horolovar 400-Day Clock Repair Guide (I bought from Amazon) they all how work. Some of the clocks where sold as is for parts only. I have fixed all eight and they keep good time. If you want to repair 400 day clocks (aka Anniversary clock) These books are a must have. I took my first clock to a repair shop and was told it could not be repaired. He was wrong.

clock review
I inherited one of these clocks, and after searching on the internet, could not find an easy repair. This book made it easy, the clock is now going nicely, I needed only to look at a couple of chapters, but it is so thorough, that I'm sure if it breaks down again I have the means to make it good. The book does seems to be reasonably stand alone, although it suggests the well known comprehensive manual commonly quoted on the internet should also be bought, in my case this was not necessary.

Good general operational guide...
This is a very good book for learning all the basics on how to service a 400 day clock, but it isn't clock specific like other books are. Make sure that you buy a book that covers your brand of clock for more detailed information.Overall this is a great reference book to go back to if you want to refresh your memory on clock cleaning and operating principles. If you can buy a used book then do so and save some money.

One of the two books that are must haves for 400 day clock repair library
The necessary companion (especially if fairly new to 400 day clock repair) to Terwilliger's book. We use in a professional repair shop for information and pointers on models not seen before, or unique problems.....

Not a Stand-alone Manual
If you are looking for a single book that tells you how to repair 400 day clocks, this is not the one. In fact, the author clearly states on page 8, "It is essential for anyone remotely interested in 400-day clock repair to obtain a copy of the 400-day Clock Repair Guide by Charles Terwilliger." The author repeatedly tells the reader to refer to the Terwiliger book for many repair actions, especially for any work involving replacing the suspension spring or making repairs related to the spring. This book does not even allow one to choose the right size spring for a clock, because that information is missing, so reference to Terwilliger's book is necessary. I would suggest that anyone looking for a complete book purchase that one instead. If, however, one wants a supplement to the Terwilliger book, this one is suited for that purpose. The author clearly has experience with repairing these clocks and offers a number of clear hints and tips.
