I got this to try with my knock-off TYT TH-9800 -- was having trouble being heard and thought a new mic might help. Out of the box, it plugs in, lights up, and transmits no problem. However, on the keypad, pushing buttons in the 4-5-6 row shows up as 1-2-3 on the radio. So typing, e.g., 146.520 shows up as 113.220. I figured the resistor network values for the keypad matrix must slightly different vs. TYT's version; it turns out that the values are the same, but TYT includes an extra diode above the first row. This product has a shunt in that location, indicated by the arrow in my photo. (There, the original TYT mic is above, and this product is below.) To fix this, open the housing and replace the 0603 shunt with either a diode or a 12k resistor. The cathode should face up, in the orientation of my photo. I first tried a schottky, the only diode I had in this size, but it didn't drop enough voltage. Then I tried the 12k resistor, which worked, but upon reassembling it I realized I had installed the resistor in the wrong handset (the original TYT one). I then installed the erroneously removed diode into the new handset, and it works correctly too. It turns out both mics work quite well -- good signal reports testing them from home. I still have no idea why my friends can't hear me on road trips, but I remain incomprehensible to them with either mic.

I was concerned about this item possibly not being the right model for my Yaesu FT-100D, but this works perfectly! I like the option to turn on backlit keys, and this feels strong, not cheap at all. I have really abused this, dropped it multiple times, dragged it a bit, and I have yet to chip, crack or break it. I waited a few weeks before reviewing, just to make sure I wasn't being fooled, and I can honestly say that this doesn't disappoint! If it had been provided with the radio, I would have assumed it was OEM, because it is that good!

Works well and sounds fine. Only complaint is that the 2 buttons on top are too recessed making changing frequencies difficult. Price is great.
