Canon Wide Converter WD-H58W for XF105, XF100, XA10 Professional Camcorder

I bought this conversion lens to go with a Vixia HF G20, which was an upgrade from an old HF10 and a .66x Raynox "HD" conversion lens. The Raynox was good if you stayed wide, but if you tried to zoom in while using it, the image quality degraded terribly. So I tended to only use it when I absolutely needed to, which unfortunately was a lot.The G20's lens is a bit wider than the HF10's, so I considered not buying a wide angle converter. But when I did the math, I realized the difference wasn't that significant, so I bit the bullet and bought the WD-H58W. I have no regrets. The image quality is fantastic, even at the telephoto end. In fact, I find myself often just keeping it on my G20 even if I don't think I'll need it. About the only times I don't use it are if I'll be carrying the camera around a lot, since the lens does add a decent amount of weight, or if I'm shooting stationary from a distance where there's no chance I'll need it, so that I have the extra telephoto range.The lens hood seems fine, but I don't often use it because of its size. But it fits in an end pocket of my Canon SC 2000 bag, nested with the hood that came with the G20, so I always have it if I need it.

I purchased this lens for my Canon XF100 over the cheaper and often wider alternatives. At $400 this is an expensive lens compared to most of the non Canon brand alternatives which are as low as $80. Is it worth so much? I think so now that I have used it for a few days. It is a high quality lens.When opening the package I was surprised how big this lens is. There is a lot of glass there. The lens comes with a Canon carry pouch and a wide angle lens hood. On the XF100 at least it looks great like it was alway part of the camera. The picture quality is still excellent with just a bit of distortion (curves) on straight lines at the edges of the shot. The standard lens on the XF100 is the equivalent of a full frame 30mm DSLR with the WD-H58W the wide angle is now the equivalent of a 24mm full frame DSLR.One other thing to note for XF100/105 users. This lens blocks the infra-red lights at the lower part of the standard lens so they can not be used in conjunction with this lens.

I bought this lens after purchasing a lesser quality and unfortunately, non-compatible lens from a different merchant. I can attest that this lens is indeed compatible with the Canon Vixia HF G10 camcorder and achieves the results you would expect from a wide angle lens. Shooting in close quarter gives you the necessary sense of space, especially when detailing the size of indoor rooms. The thread for the Canon Vixia HF G10 is 58mm so don't fall for a "fitted" lens with a 62mm to 58mm thread adapter as you will see a vignetting effect because of the adapter. This lens was well worth the price tag. The vendor was probably the promptest shipper I have ever experienced on Amazon, which is quite a feat.

I was a little skeptical when I ordered this; had a special project to film, a Baptist Heritage Seminar - 6 2 hour sessions. I had to be able to get the entire platform into view, singers on the left, speaker in the middle and powerpoint showing overhead. I was amazed how quality this lens was/is, I was able to double my field of view, then narrow it down to the exact dimensions I needed for perfect framing of the event. DVD's going out today and they look very good. I would recommend this to anyone!

I bought this item for my Canon Vixia HF G10. While pricey, it does greatly expand the scope of the frame--which is especially useful indoors. While the description doesn't necessarily mention this, it's worth knowing that this lens also comes with a well-crafted lens hood that easily goes on and off, as well as a lens cap that can still cover the lens even with the bulky hood on. A very professional and well-machined object. High Quality.

Converter lens works as advertized.I like this lens so I don't have to back up when video-shooting several people together in a wide shot.

Nice clean glass, and a must have for shooting interiors and landscapes, as well as smoothing out handheld/stedicam material. Enjoy!

What a difference. Purchased to film real estate and am very pleased. Great image through the lens, don't notice any distortion at the corners/edges.
