Good quality. Works perfectly.
This is great for skimming scum from the surface of stocks, and for similar skimming tasks. Mesh is very fine and it picks up small bits very well. Skimmer is easy to clean. Because of the fine mesh this is not a heavy duty tool you can treat harshly. Store it carefully and it should last a long time. I keep mine in the plastic bag that it came in. I have used mine to skim hot cooking oil that was used for deep frying. It worked well, but I have not used this regularly for deep frying applications.

Wow... Totally Amazed!!
I love to cook Asian recipes, and although I had focused more on dishes cooked in a wok, recently I've started cooking more soups as well, and one of the recommendations in those recipes is to skim off the foam or impurities that float to the surface when boiling meats. In the past I had just used a regular spoon, but it's tedious and trying to just get the "scum" and not any of the soup isn't easy to do sometimes. That's when I looked into skimmers and ran across this one. Yes, it's made in China, and I even read the few reviews from others that mentioned the "screen came loose" on the first use (or shortly thereafter), but I've used mine now for quite a while and have cooked many pots of soup using it, and it hasn't been phased at all. I had read one review where the person said the screen fell out after just picking up a few scallions with it. Well, I wasn't there, but I will truthfully say that I have picked up a very large sweet yellow onion out of the pot with it, as well as hunks of beef short ribs or chicken just to test its durability and it handled it all with ease. What really amazes me though is its ability to skim oil and grease out of the pot as well, allowing the more viscous broth or soup to fall through the screen, but NOT the grease or oil. It does that job sooo well, that when we cook whole cut-up chickens to make our dog's their food (mixed with rice, vegetables and other nutritious ingredients), we no longer have to let the chicken stock cool in the refrigerator to allow the grease to harden before skimming it out of the pot (we boil down the broth to use in the recipe, too). This skimmer does a FANTASTIC job of skimming, and am so glad I purchased it. It's holding up extremely well, does great at skimming foam impurities, and can clear your soup or broth of grease and oil while its cooking, too!! Thank you!!!

Wonderful Skimmer - Great Additional to Kitchen Utensils
I've started making my own chicken broth and that is the reason I purchased this skimmer. I am amazed at how great this works and how easy it is to clean. I've put it on the top rack of the dishwasher several times and it looks brand new. This is a perfect skimmer for me and I'm very happy with it's design.

Small for dumplings
Much smaller than I expected, but will keep it for other purposes. Quality is great

trivializes skimming
I honestly don't know why I didn't get something like this sooner because it really does make skimming fat/gunk far easier then using something like a ladle. Using a ladle is kind of a pain because you end up scooping up stuff that you want to keep and it can be hard to separate, furthermore I always found it cumbersome because I would break up the fat on the surface, making collecting it more difficult. I tried a slotted spoon, but the slots are way too large, and I had tried other tricks like freezing the ladle, which works really well for about 7 seconds. I finally got this and it makes the process so much easier. It does feel a bit cheap, but I like how lightweight it is as it's very easy to maneuver.

A kitchen essential I didn’t know I needed
I’ll be honest, I used to just use a regular large spoon to scoop fat off my stews, and it was always a frustrating, messy process. I finally caved and bought this Hiware Fine Mesh Skimmer, and it’s honestly a game-changer for homemade stocks and Sunday gravy. What I Like: The Mesh is Legit: It’s incredibly fine. It doesn’t just catch the big chunks; it actually pulls that cloudy "scum" and foam off the top of boiling meat without taking half the liquid with it. Long Handle: If you’re working with a deep stockpot, you’ll appreciate the length. I don't have to worry about steam burns or my hand getting too close to the grease splatters. Solid Build: It doesn’t feel like those cheap, flimsy wire strainers you find at the grocery store. The handle is stiff and the welding where the mesh meets the frame feels secure. Easy to Clean: I’ve tossed it in the dishwasher a dozen times now and haven’t seen a speck of rust. Just a heads-up: if you’re skimming heavy grease, give it a quick rinse with hot soapy water first so the fat doesn't clog the mesh in the dishwasher. Because the mesh is so fine, it can be a little stubborn to scrub if you let food particles (like tiny bits of herbs or meat) dry on it. Just soak it for a minute or use a kitchen brush, and you’re fine. If you make a lot of soups, bone broth, or Japanese hot pot (Shabu-shabu), just get it. For the price, it saves so much time and makes your broth look way more professional and clear.

Works very well. I use it to scoop out mince I’ve boiled for my dog. Works well to catch every bit of meat. It can be used for many cooking purposes.
