I found the first volume to be an eye-opening read. I'd already been introduced to the topic of Russian criminal tattoos via 'The Mark of Cain', and the encyclopaedia expanded on many ideas touched on in the film. This second volume picks up along the same trajectory and is equally fascinating. The subject matter is dark, as you may expect. If you already have the first volume and appreciated it, this is a must-have.

Decided to learn a little about Russian culture before my trip to Saint Petersburg so I bought this book. I saw a nifty tattoo on page 243 that I decided I liked and wanted to copy before going to Saint Petersburg. Upon arriving I started waving at locals and showing them my sweet tattoo. After only a short hour 4 men jump out of a van shouting Russian, I thought to myself finally some appreciation! It turns out they just wanted to torture me for my cultural appropriation and for the fact my tattoo said Go Get F***ed. Pro tip, If you're planning a trip to Russia don't copy Russian criminal tattoos beforehand.
