Gotoh Magnum Lock-Trad 6-In-Line Guitar Tuners, Chrome

These are very nice tuners, especially for replacing vintage Gotoh non-locking tuners. They are easy to install as long as the guitar has a modern 10mm bore, though the position of the mounting screw tangs needs to be considered. The staggered heights provide a better break angle that may permit omission of string trees depending on the individual guitar, though on a Stratocaster I wish the low E had a taller post as the steeper break angle can make for less tuning stability when used with a vibrato bar. The locking mechanism iss solid and secure and makes changing strings a breeze along with improving tuning stability overall by eliminarting multiple wraps around the capstan.

I bought these as an upgrade to my Squier Contemporary Stratocaster and they were in a practical sense a direct drop in fit. I did not have redrill for the screws in the back, I only had to re-use my screws from the old tuners. I'm sure I could have also used the included screws, but the hole radius would likely have to be widened slightly. The staggered height is a plus, there's a possibility I might even be able to take off at least one of the the string trees. It took a moment to find out they were staggered height, so keep that in mind when installing. The 16:1 tuning ratio probably isn't for everyone, but with how smoothly and and accurately these turn I can get my guitar in tune much easier than the stock squier die-cast tuners. I would recommend looking up how to string locking tuners first and the "1-2-3-3-4-5 o'clock" rule. Stew Mac also has a video on their YouTube channel detailing how to install these on your strat or other 6 a side tuner guitar. Considering there was no definite proof these tuners were going to be a direct fit. I'm not claiming they will fit every 13/32 tuner size guitar perfectly, but I feel like this is an obvious upgrade for a squier contemporary guitar. This is the sort of guitar that's not ever going to be worth more stock and is a great practice guitar I believe matches or exceeds the quality of a lower end fender guitar. I think anything more expensive than these tuners will yield diminishing returns. It also showed up 2 days early, though your results may vary. I'll probably buy these again if I build a warmoth strat.

Used these on an Ibanez GRX70QA. They were a direct replacement for the cheap factory installed heads. Perfect fit. No drilling necessary, helps hold better tune and the locking feature makes restrings so much easier
