Excellent quality and price
I am very thankful that I get to experience authentic pumpernickel bread for such a fair price, via the convenience of Amazon and Mestemacher. Before discovering this on Amazon, I thought I experienced pumpernickel bread before, but little did I know, so many of the "pumpernickel" breads that are sold, are not true pumpernickel--meaning just the use of whole grain rye flour. These other versions are filled with unnecessary ingredients like seed oils, preservatives, sugar, "enriched" white wheat flour to make it more chewy, etc. I was very surprised to find this on Amazon. The taste and texture is so very nice. Very excellent quality. The bread arrived fresh. I put it in the freezer and it toasts nicely. Highly recommend.

The best I found so far!
This is the best Pumpernickel I found in the US. It's dense and tasty and just reminds me of it back in my home country Switzerland. It keeps pretty much for a long time. And you can even toast it, the flavor in the texture is absolutely great. Highly recommend.

Crumbles and doesn't taste anything like pumpernickel.
In don't normally write customer reviews but don't usually spend $13 for 14 slices of the worst tasting bread I've ever eaten. It crumbles, it's tasteless and fit for the trash - which is is next stop. Doesn't taste anything like pumpernickel bread that I buy at our market. Forgot to purchase it the last time we went shopping so I thought I'd find something on Amazon. It has a long shelf life - but not going to sit long on my shelf. After the 'loaf' is opened, one must eat the six remaining slices within 5 days. It addition, each bad slice of bread has a hefty 32 gram carb count. Save your money and look elsewhere.

Delicious when Toasted!
Delicious, and a little addicting! Mine shipped in a kraft paper mailer and arrived fine, but I feel Amazon should add a little more padding to protect from potential damage from shipping something small and heavy. Arrived undamaged, sealed, and moist. There are no preservatives so I keep mine in the fridge. Make sure to toast thoroughly to bring out the flavor. Using a toaster oven it takes much longer to toast than regular bread due to the density and moisture content. I like mine a little dry on top and crisp on the edges. Has a very satisfying bite/chew and has a natural sweetness to it. Will buy again. It's not easy to tell but there are 7 slices per package (2@ 17.6oz/500g), and serving size is 1 slice. Per Mestemacher website, 1 slice: 150 cal, 1g fat, 32 carbs (9 fiber), 3g protein. For the two pack, it roughly comes to about $1 per slice.

Tariffs have raised the price…..allegedly.
I have purchased this bread for many years from various sellers including Amazon. Very good quality and tasty AND it’s real rye bread, unlike the “rye bread” one gets in US bakeries. If Amazon ships this product in a box with adequate packing, loaves arrive intact. I love this bread, but not as much now that it has a 15% tariff added to the price.

So delicious and did NOT trigger my (severe) gluten allergy!
I have looked for all-rye bead forever in local stores in US. I finally thought of trying Amazon and here it is! I am so excited to find food that does not trigger my gluten allergy and also is delicious. Even the "gluten free" breads I can buy here sometimes trigger my allergy, due to over-processing and added mystery ingredients, and they all taste like cardboard. Not this wonderful bread, which is both delicious and healthy! I read one review saying it was not good for sandwiches. Good grief, then just go buy the junk on the shelves (sorry). Each loaf has 7 thin, dense slices that work just fine for open sandwiches and such. I have eaten it plain, toasted with butter, with scrambled eggs, mashed avacados, and plan to try toasted with sardines, cream cheese with smoked salmon, etc. Another good thing is that is so nutritious and dense that it fills you up quickly. It keeps well in the fridge in an air-tight container, thus I I plan to get six loaves the next time...I would put it on auto-ship but don't trust Amazon not to throw it in a big box with other things, based on my past experience, but enough of that. If you are looking for healthy, flavorful bread that keeps well, this is it! If you have gluten allergies, try the two loaves and test. I hope you love it as much as I do. This makes me want to move to Germany. Yes, it's that good. Guten tag!

Warning: the picture that looks like one loaf is a pic of the so-called two loaves on receives.
Not bread. The picture appears as two loaves of bread. What arrives is one of those pictured, two packaged flats of no-leavening and flourless that fall apart. It is like whole grains not for human consumption that are pressed hard flat. Of primacy is that appearance of a loaf is a picture of two packages of long narrow slices that have not any character of any bread, and that is exactly what VERY HUNGRY WILL NOT EAT, regardless of that it would appear, as described on the product's page, it is whole grains that one might buy for fiber and protein (my impetus for selecting the product). I tried half a crumbled piece that I held carefully to avoid a handfull of inedible grain that, for my type, is only not palatable. This could cause physical discomfort in one with another type usual fare. I am nearly certain it is a throwback to experiments for low calory grain to make pseudo-bread-flour. My guess is the primary ingredients, shown on the description of the product on its page, is crushed birdseed.
