Must have for ACT clinicians
This book is a tremendously valuable addition to the library of anyone who has a desire to learn more about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially clinicians that would like to incorporate ACT metaphors and exercises into their professional work. As a beginner therapist, I can say from personal experience that this book has been extremely helpful in both my professional and personal life. The metaphors are very easy to understand and as compared to other books on ACT, I believe this text provides the largest number of exercises and metaphors that can be immediately applied to your clinical work. I refer back to this book weekly as I prepare to see clients and I have used many of the worksheets provided on a regular basis as well. The Big Book of ACT Metaphors is simply a MUST HAVE for anyone that is teaching, practicing, or supervising ACT.

It is a fantastic resource for any counseling professional
There is not much I can say about this book that hasn’t already been emphatically stated by other reviewers. It is a fantastic resource for any counseling professional, physician, or health care provider interested in learning more about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and applying it to their own practice. It is clearly written and very well organized into the different components of the ACT model. There are so many different metaphors contained within this book, that if you plan on learning and/or using ACT, this is one of the best bang for your buck books. I am constantly referring to this book for different ways to educate my patients about the various components of psychological flexibility. Clearly, from my review, I highly recommend it!

Great Resource, well written
If you are using ACT in your practice you must have this book. It is informative and very instructive for the clinician. You will gain many, many important metaphorical approaches that are very useful in your sessions. The book does an excellent job of de-literalizing concepts driven by language that is often holding the client in their stuck or fused mode. And, of course, it is fun at the same time to gain metaphorical approaches to tweak your own growth and at the same time-- the clients. Good job Dr. Stoddard. Please keep those cards and letter coming.

Nice addition for those who use ACT for their practice
You've very probably come up with a load of your own metaphors, but this is a great little addition to that.

great collection of tools
Really great collection of techniques for beginning and intermediate ACT therapists. It's organized neatly to the hexaflex and has some really insightful info about how to conceptualize fit of the techniques to the clients. Dr. Stoddard is thee best professor I've ever had in grad school in terms of actually learning from what she has to teach and how she approaches it. You just learn so much from her lectures and this book really captures that same wealth of information and the style of her teaching that really captures the attention of the learner.

Wish I bought this sooner
This book has been so incredibly helpful with my clients. There are multiple metaphors per concept, and in the back there’s an URL to check out if you want the electronic version of the forms provided in the book. This resource was a game changer for me.
