Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Ancient Myths of Egypt - An excellent read if you like ancient Egypt. Full of information. Ideal gift for those who love Egypt. Read if you enjoy a good read about ancient history. Review: One to keep. - Trying to get a little clarity into the bewildering belief systems of Ancient Egypt is not an easy task but Geraldine Pinch definitely nails it. With its multiplicity of deities whose attributes sometimes changed over the millenia, Egyptian mythology allows a variety of interpretations and too many books on the subject leave the reader more confused than enlightened. She is not dogmatic in her approach and offers various interpretations but doesn't beat you to death with her encyclopedic knowledge of the subject. I thought she hit the right balance and on occasions had some profound insights to offer. Its probably not the book to get if you know nothing of the subject, nor if you've already graduated to reading Hornung or Assman. As the title implies, it is a guide to Gods and Goddesses and the traditions from which they arose. It is not a collection of stories like the Greek myths. There are stories and anecdotes but they are not a major feature of the book. A good all round reference work that you'll keep going back to.

Informative and interesting
Nice informative book, I was a bit lost in the beginning as it did not start off as an easy read but since page 20 or so I really started enjoying it! Worth it if you want to dive into the subject a bit deeper or also for studying I presume.

Text clarifies approach succinctly to the topic and does a good whip-through in an understandable manner of presented layout and purpose to the reader. The sources used and how they are presented following each section was beneficial to my reading preferences and provided a thorough list of what else to inspect for additional topics. Author does well when presented comparative summaries of other works, as some information may differ or compete against each other regarding the same topic. Definitely a worthwhile source for anyone looking to understand theme behind different perspectives of Ancient Egyptian god hierarchy. “Guide” suits the title well, as well as the presentation of structure of myths.
