Sharp metal shards!!!
I was a little disappointed with the pad when it arrived, but I figured it would still do the job. My infant is starting to crawl, so I was hoping to add a little more cushion to the living room floor as he’s cruising around. I wasn’t going to return it or say anything, and just use it.So, we put the pad down in preparation for the arrival of our rug today and I just stepped on a piece of metal that was sticking out of the pad!!! The pointed metal shard was partially embedded into it. Now my foot is bleeding out of the little puncture wound, and I don’t know if I should throw this whole thing away and consider it a loss, or put the rug down and pray there aren’t more metal shards in there scratching up my wood floor. FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS!!!

A Pain To Trim
This rug pad is a nice thickness and has a great non-skid bottom. It is substantial and not skimpy. That being said, God help you if you need to trim it at all. I ordered the 9x12 size to go under a 9x12 rug. Since "9x12" in rug descriptions can actually vary by a few inches, the rug pad was about 2 inches two long and 2 inches too wide. No big deal- I expected to trim it as I had trimmed other rug pads in the past.It was VERY diffcult to cut. It laughed at regular scissors, scoffed at larger garage utility snips, guffawed at hedge truimmers and only very stubbornly yielded to the sharpest of like ten box cutters my husband had in the garage. At one point I considered using the reciprocating electric knife we use at Thanksgiving to carve turkey. It was a pain, but I will say it was good work out. By the time I got done wrangling the rug pad into position and spent an hour getting it trimmed to size, I felt like I could skip my work-out today. So buy the rug pad-- it's a dandy rug underlayment-- just remember me-- when you are cursing it as you are trimming it to size, remember the lady on the Amazon reviews who told you!But I'd still buy it again.

not worth $90
The pad arrived unprotected in a bag , not a box like every other item from Amazon. The pad was folded up , not rolled and ended up having "bubbles" or "lumps" in it once it was opened . Once the rug was placed on top , the rug was not able to lay completely flat . Mohawk used to have a great reputation at one time... this pad falls short.

Absolute garbage. Owned for one miserable year.
I bought two of these a year ago, and I'm finally calling it quits and throwing them both out. They DO NOT hold the rug in place. Simple as that. I've spent a year readjusting both. These are GARBAGE.

Well made, fits perfectly under 8x10 rug without cutting, but not very soft
Honestly, I am so confused by so many of the reviews on here. Based on all the reviews I read, my take away was that when I received this Mohawk rug pad, it would most likely be two things: 1) sized wrong and most likely have to be cut to size 2) make my area rug extremely padded and comfy. After receiving and using this product, both descriptions couldn't be more off for my example. Regarding the first issue, I didn't have that problem at all, the pad came folded in a large box, but was perfectly square and fit near identically to my 8x10 carpet. It was just a little shorter (maybe half an inch) on all sides, making it fit perfectly underneath and going the entire length of the rug without being seen along the edges. No one would know it is there. Absolutely no cutting was necessary. HOWEVER, the more important second issue and why I spent the extra money on this instead of the thinner foam pads I usually get was because of the claimed added comfort that this would give my area rug. I am by no means a novice to rugs, as we have hardwood and several rugs around our house, mostly 8x10 and 5x7, ranging from expensive all wool to shag and low pile rugs. This pad provided a "little" bit of extra comfort, but not much, and certainly not twice the price level of comfort. I sincerely doubt anyone would confuse this rug as being much more expensive as others have stated. The problem is that the pad is a very solid and rough compressed felt. I almost feel that it is wrong to call it padding, because that would insinuate that it is soft and has give, like a pillow or something else. This is not squishy felt you find in a craft store, but a thick almost denim like material. The bottom has a rubber grip to prevent it from sliding and to also not scratch up the floors. Construction is solid, but it is NOT soft, or as others have said: plush, heavenly, luxurious, etc. I honestly don't know what they are talking about, whether they have an older version that is softer, or if it is all just relative and we have a difference in opinion, but I can't see how anyone would use those adjectives with this pad. My thinking was that this would be similar to carpet padding underneath wall to wall carpet that truly ads comfort, albeit much thinner. Not so, this is nothing like the carpet padding material that they put underneath wall-to-wall carpeting. Some have claimed that this material falls apart, again, something I would expect on a true felt type material, but I couldn't imagine this falling apart under normal wear and use. You could easily drag furniture around on top of it without it ripping.I would say this ads a true 1/4" height to the carpet, but is hardly noticeable, and feels maybe 25% softer (if I'm being generous). It looks to be durable, I enjoy the no slip padding underneath, and was pleased that it was 100% perfectly sized and perfectly square. However, it wasn't very soft and only added minor comfort. For the price, it was okay, but not great. I deducted two stars solely because of the lack of perceived comfort. I understand that added comfort is a relative description, so others may obviously disagree. My wife and I both, however, came to the same conclusion. This product is being used on a 8x10 medium pile shag area rug. I have not tried this on our thick pile wool rug since the pile is so thick, I doubt you would feel this at all underneath (plus, that rug doesn't really need added plush). I will update this review if the pad scratches up the floor, moves around, or degrades over time. I am also holding out very slim hope that maybe it "puffs up" over time and becomes a little softer, but I sincerely doubt that will happen.

Excellent
After reading other reviews I had a number of concerns about this product, but none of them turned out to be an issue. There was barely any odor -- far less, in fact, than the new rug itself which I had recently bought at Costco. The felt material is clearly made of some sort of recycled plastic, which is what I expected. It's not pretty, but it's not meant to be. The dimensions seemed to be dead on. I ordered a 5' x 7' pad and that appears to be precisely what I got. The way it was packed there was only one substantial crease in the pad and after a few days it was gone.As for function, my new carpet definitely feels more substantial and richer with the pad under it, and it no longer shifts and slides on my hardwood floors when I walk quickly across the carpet, which was my main concern. The pad is a bit less than a quarter inch thick. It added some height to the carpet, but not enough to be a trip hazard, just enough to add a little cushioning to the carpet and give it some heft. The pad actually cost more than the Costco carpet it's under but it made the carpet go from feeling cheap, stiff and thin to feeling like a high quality carpet. I will definitely buy again.

Don’t Waste Your Money!
We purchased two of these under-pads for our area rugs on carpet. Neither work and the carpets constantly curl up. We can’t return them as we had to cut each to fit as per the instructions. I did contact Mohawk via email right from their own website and included pictures of the rugs curling. No one ever got back to me so I definitely wouldn’t recommend this company especially after we paid almost $350 for two under-pads. If your looking for carpet on carpet pads, don’t waste your money with this brand.

Good cushion but padding does not stay in place
Cushion under the area rug is excellent. However, the area rug does not stay in place (rubber side facing the floor) and I’m always having to adjust it.

Exactly what we wanted to add more cushioning!
Purchased the 6’1”x9’ to give better cushion to a low profile area rug and is exactly what we hoped it would be/do. It might be slightly larger than what the description says but that’s better than being smaller (and it was easy to cut off excess). One side has the non-slip rubber and the other is just felt. Had no odor and was packaged well. It comes folded (not rolled) but easily lays flat on hardwood. Arrived quickly and did not disappoint.

Really like the product but the company has serious sizing and cutting problems.
I have actually purchased this product previously and i think it is good but this time there were very irritating problems. I ordered specific sizes that they had on their website because they were exactly the size I needed. Do NOT rely on their advertised measurements. They were not even close on width and had to cut excess width off. The length was actually shorter by about an inch and to make matters worse the length cuts were NOT square to the sides. I know its hard to believe since they are in this business and you would think they surely have a way to make square cuts on their roll products. NOT SO for me! If you still want some I suggest you buy a bigger piece than actually needed as I had to trim mine anyways and make sure you have a good blade tool or a heavy duty sharp scissors for cutting the excess off.

Great for hardwood or laminate floors and very soft cotton rugs.
This is a 5 star product. We were desperate with our huge 8.6"x11.6" cotton woven rug just bunching up and looking horrible. I finally decided it was either spend the money for a rug pad or throw the darn rug away. I opted for the first and I am glad I did. I have laminate floors. The rug pad keeps the rug in place, straight as new and we use it in the kids playroom. I highly recommend it for cotton rugs ( very slippery ones) on hard wood or laminate flooring. It is not very thick but my rug already is, so I didn't need it to be. The size is ok too, a bit smaller than the rug but it looks and works fine.
