This pond vacuum is a beast!
I’ve used a pondvac 4 for few years now. For the most part, it did a great job. I was using it on an 1800 gallon pond. Somewhere along the way it began to lose its suction. I ordered some replacement gaskets and other parts for it, but it continued to lose suction. During this time I tore down my old pond and built a new one- Twice as deep & holds 9k gallons. I also stepped up to the pondvac 5. It took a little while to assemble and to figure out how it worked, but once I got started, I was immediately impressed! The suction was great, the hoses were long enough to go around the perimeter of the pond and down to it’s 4 foot depth w/o moving the vac itself. I attached the outlet hose to some tubing that I already had, and ran that to the main cleanout pipe of my house. Within a few of hours I had the pond cleaned up, and then another 30 minutes to clean, dry, & pack away the vacuum. It’s a very sound investment if your pond is important to you, and you can’t go wrong with the long lengths of hoses provided and the suction power that it provides! Not the cheapest pond vacuum in town, but I consider it well worth the investment!

POS equipment. Don’t buy.
I’m not sure what this is for. The system will clog with the smallest debris. The upper pump vacuums, but the lower pump isn’t strong enough to empty the waste water out. The result is a system that only does half of what it’s supposed to do and requires that the user turn off the unit to empty the waste reservoir by hand. NASTY - don’t buy.

Customer Service at its' best.
Where you buy something can make all the difference in the world. Pondliner markets the Oase V on Amazon. When I received the item I discovered a Return Authorization form in the box. Someone mistakenly sent me a used machine. I spoke with Bob in Customer Service and he immediately sent me a Return Authorization for Fedex. I told him I really needed to get my pond cleaned up as I could see mosquitoes were hatching out. He offered to overnight ship my pond vacuum. The next day I put it to work and was relieved that it performed so well. He also sent me chemicals to control mosquitoes and help clean the water. I appreciate that gesture. It's important to have confidence in the business you deal with. Pondliner knows its products and takes pond maintenance and their customers seriously.

First impressions: not designed to handle a big cleanup
Writing review on first impressions, as I received the vac today and put it to the test asap. It's a solidly designed, well-constructed machine. Looks like it's built to last. It rolls easily on nice solid wheels. For the price, it should be a durable piece of equipment. It is not up to cleaning the thick muck from my pond. It seems well designed to clean ponds that are already fairly clean. Because the suction tube narrows down to just about 1" - 11/2" both at the nozzle and where the extension tubes attach, it clogs easily on debris. This is not a detail that is easily discovered in reading the specs. The narrow intake surely enables the vacuum to deliver a high suction, but that's not so helpful when you're constantly clearing out clogs. I worry also that the pump motor will strain - it's not supposed to run dry, and could do so if a clog goes undetected. To clean the muck in my pond, I think I'd need a 2-3" intake tube. Looks like I'll have to clean the muck by hand as I have done in the past. Perhaps then this vacuum, if I don't return it, will work for ongoing maintenance cleaning.

Damaged on arrival.
"Who do I talk to about getting a replacement part? I don't want return the whole thing. The plastic hose extension is crushed." That was my first review. So, I gave this one star when it arrived due to the fact that the vacuum tubes that attach to the hose were damaged. The box looked like it had been dropped of the back of a truck several times.Since then, Amazon has sent a complete replacement and I've had the chance to use it. My pond is about 4,000 gallons and my previous Pondovac 3 gave up the ghost last fall after six years of heavy use and the pond has not been maintained at all since then. Needless to say, there was a ton of stuff on the bottom. With the previous model vacuum, it would have been 4-5 hours to clean it up. Maybe even longer. With the model 5, it took about an hour and it looks awesome. With the continuous suction, I never have to wait for it to empty the wastewater tank. It does require opening the top occasionally and emptying out the bag inside that catches the bigger items, but it takes no time at all. And the suction is amazing.All-in-all, it's a great product. The customer service people at Oase-LivingWater are also very good. It's expensive, but worth it!

Great Suction and Easy to Use
I did not plan to spend this much, but the "lesser" vacuums seemed to have some issues. I am glad I made the investment. This unit has great suction and is easy to assemble and use. The handle to the suction hose arrived cracked, and a complete new hose with handle was delivered to me in just a few days. In the past I would drain my 2500 gallon pond, clear the muck, power-wash the rocks, drain again, and refill. That would take nearly a week. At my current rate, this should take 6-8 hours instead. Then I can easily clean it more often so it will never get this gross again. I have only had it a short time, but it has plenty of power and is very well designed. NB

Good suction but very flimsy cheap poles.
Unit is well design and works well. Very strong suction. I already have 2 Oase filters and they work great. Tubing is fine. Unit easy to move around even when full of water. So two things. The poles are cheaply made on thin aluminum with plastic sleeves to hold the poles together. The poles easily dent and bend - especially when they are full of water. I have already broken one end of a pole. With this price point I would have expected more. Second issue is the attachments. They too are made of cheap materials. Thin plastic. I use this in a 5 foot deep koi pond that is 30 x 15. The sludge attachment works good but the brush attachments is really too small. Its about 3 inches a 5-6 inch option would be great. Overall it works well on suction side and that really makes the product but the poles make me handle things very gently for fear of breaking or bending.
