Q: How thick is the acrylic?

The acrylic is thin. It is not durable After replacing it a the second time, I gave up.

Q: Can I use this for reading a book or magazine while I'm eating?

Of course. You will need to lift your book to turn the page as the page may catch on plastic lip as you turn.

Q: how much weight will this hold?

This acrylic stand cracks and breaks very easily. It was used to hold 8x11 laminated sheet...minimal weight. I found the product very disappointing.
