I'm impressed but for one small niggle...
For the lazy - It works well but comes out easily. For the rest, read on...At first I thought I had a dud because my notebook would not recognise this device. Didn't even know I'd plugged in anything. I then thought that maybe I must install the drivers from the supplied CD?Still nothing. Disappointing as most things these days are just 'plug n play'.Turned out that there was a little bit of paper or something covering some pins inside the connector before it was sealed in it's bag.Once removed, I plugged it in and got the lovely 'new hardware connected' chime from Windows 10.I then expected some pop-ups such as 'installing drivers' but nothing showed, so I just plugged in a USB3.0 flash drive and again heard the chime from Windows, so it was already up and running. Not even time to show driver install messages.I have an older notebook running an Intel Core Duo T5800 with 4GB RAM. It came with Windows 7 but now runs Win10 from an SSD. It only ever had USB 2.0 as it's such an old platform.Because of this I doubted that this unit would actually give me faster speeds, but remarkably it does.My first test was at USB 2.0 before I installed this. I transferred a 4.51GB video from C drive to the USB flash drive and it took 5m 26s at up to 22MBps.After installing this, I transferred the same file to the same (wiped) USB 3.0 flash drive but this time it did it in 2m 35s at speeds of up to 50MBps. More than double the speed.I then tested it with both a flash drive and my Android phone plugged in to this unit. I transferred a 490MB file from the notebook to both media at the same time. The first file began transferring at 60MBps but when the second file was going to the phone as well it all slowed down, so I know for sure that this bandwidth is shared. In other words you won't get full speed from 3 ports at the same time. I wouldn't have expected it.Is 50-60MBps full speed for USB3.0? No. They say it can transfer up to 5GBps (GigaBytes)!Again I would not expect to see those speeds in my case. My notebook is too old for that. It's infastructure doesn't allow for those speeds. In more modern computers with a bigger 'bus' speed you may stand a chance. It's kinda like trying to get fire hose volume from a garden hose. Data just travels slowly throughout my computer and no plug-in can fix that. Bus speed is my bottleneck/limiting factor, not this unit. However, I have just more than doubled my USB speed by installing this. Clearly USB 2.0 could not fully utilise my bus speeds but this can So I'm happy with the purchase. This one had no reviews but many sellers sell the very same item (this one was cheapest).I most reviews they say that the unit comes out too easily when removing USB sticks etc.It clicked into place very nicely and I didn't believe that this could be the case, but sure enough it removes itself every time you try to pull out the flash drive unless you hold it in place. It's a slight annoyance for now and the reason I dropped to four stars. I plan to use a dab of glue to permanently fix this in place because it works well and I want it to stay anyway!
