Good but has its quirks
I don’t have any other blocks to compare this to so keep that in mind. It’s a little short which makes longer knives stick out at the top — if they’re sharp you have to be careful grabbing any other knives from the block. It’s difficult finding a taller one though — I think this is the tallest one I was able to find. The attachment of the top to the base is a little wobbly. This will probably keep loosening from the repetitive removal of knives (the magnet is really strong) which will probably slowly ruin the threading from the wood screws. The center of gravity is a little finicky but I guess that comes with the territory of having a knife block in this style. If you don’t place a sharp knife the right way it might slide sideways and scratch the bamboo.I’m not sure if the magnet being this strong is a bad thing or good thing. I’m sometimes afraid of removing my sharpest knives because of how much force it takes to pop it off. This is a solid option for those who don’t have the option to put a magnetic strip above their oven.

Really handy
I love this thing, I've been buying my knives separately instead of in a set with a block and this thing is perfect, especially without wanting to use a screw in magnet that would mess up the apartment. The real thing is learning the "trick" to get them off the block since the magnet is quite strong. You need to twist the blade so the dull side is the only part touching the magnet then its easy to remove and you only need to use one hand. I also recommend putting it back on the rack the same way (dull side first) so that you avoid chipping the blade or scratching the block due to the force that the magnet pulls the knife in with. Works with pretty much any blade or set of scissors except for small pairing knives.

slightly smaller than advertised
Arrived on time. There are two bamboo pieces that fit together well. The items arrived in an air-tight package, which is great to prevent wood rot during storage and transport. My item is actually 11 inches instead of 12 as advertised. I'll allow for a little size variation with woodwork; it is not a dealbreaker for me; however if you are looking to buy this item then error on the side of getting the bigger size. I am little concerned about the metal screws which will likely rust given their position and render the platform unstable over time. Water from wet knives on the block will seep down to the screws, which is a design flaw. It would be much better to have the screws from the sides. The magnets seem reasonable out of the box. It remains to be seen if they will hold their magnetic strength over time.

Very powerful magnetic holder
After my kitchen remodel, I lost the wall space where I usually had my magnetic block. My knives are a collection I put together myself so a standard knife block won't work. This holder has room for all my knives, including a cleaver. The magnet is very strong - like pulls the knife from a few inches away strong. There is a base to provide stability but the magnet is so powerful, I either have to steady the block with one hand or slide the knives up and off when using them. Looks nice on my counter and wipes clean. It's also moveable unlike a wall-mounted version so you can put it where it's needed.

Not terrible, but not good enough
I thought the idea was looked good, but the execution is poor and not sure the idea is really good after all. The screw holes in the base did not line up properly with the vertical piece. Worse, the holes were not perpendicular to the base, so the vertical piece leaned to one side. You'd think a manufacturer could figure out how to provide perfectly aligned holes. But even worse, the knives kept tilting from vertical because the very shiny surface of the wood did not grip them in place. Need a rubber surface or something to prevent sliding and tilting. Also, unless you are careful to twist the knife when removing it, the magnetic pull can make the whole thing fall over - and when in a hurry you can easily forget that. Also, if the blades overlap (which happens because they slide and tilt from vertical) the magnetism will grip the two knife blades together requiring two hands to get the knife you want. All in all, poorly thought out and executed. I have a magnetic knife holder screwed to my wall which avoids all these problems. I thought this would be a nice portable thing, but it just isn't good enough. In the end, putting wood over the magnets is a dumb idea. Also, the product description is false - the vertical board is not 8" from the top of the base as described. It is under 7". This makes a difference because the hilt of an 8" chef knife while not sit on the top of the board to help keep it from tilting - so it tilts on the knife tip and hits the next knife. Not a terrible product, just not good enough.

bamboo holder
after remodeling kitchen and having glass subway tile as backsplash was warned by the tile installer that he would not recommend puting a magnetic wall knife holder up. He was concerned that the tile would shatter, so after searching found stand bamboo holder. Love it, does not take up alot of counter space and blends nicely. My only complaint and it is minor that screwing in the base was a tad difficult, one hole was predrilled perfectly, the other was not and I was afraid I would split the wood if tried too hard

Not perfect, but still better than a knife block
The magnets are relatively strong but the placement are questionable. The knives can fall slide down if you're not careful but once you place it in the right spot, it will stay. You will want to put the knives straight down so they don't lean towards one direction or the other. I've fit many knives on it, including a cleaver. My knives definitely maintain their edge longer than my knife block.
