Simple and basic HD enclosure that performs fine although it gets to
I've been replacing all the HDDs in my notebooks with SSD and now NMVE replacements, leaving me with a decision about what to do with the hold HDDs.This SETMSPACE HD Enclosure is a great solution for this issue. For starters, it is incredibly easy to use - just plug and play NO TOOLS NEEDED AND NO DRIVERS. There is some sort of carbon fiber on the inside that makes heat dissipation a bit better than the plastic alone, but the drive does still get a bit warm. Performance does not seem to change with the heat. The enclosure is easy to use both to insert and remove the HDD and to plug it to a computer. I've only used it with Windows and Linux machines each without issue.Call me a satisfied customer.

Simple and convenient
This was a perfect acquisition for an SSD I had lying around. It's a nice size as it's just large enough to hold the drive securely without having extra bulk that would negate the convenience of using it in the first place. It was a little difficult to open at first as the hard surface is slippery but that's also a good thing because it means the cover shouldn't come off when you don't want it to. The drive slides in well and easily slots into the dock. And that's it. Put the cover back on, attach the cord and plug into your computer.Being USB-C it's technically capable of the speeds advertised, but much of that is also going to depend on the actual SSD you use and your receiving device specs. So don't expect the 6GB/s transfer unless you have all the other needed specs to actually make that possible. I will say that it does transfer faster than some other adapters I've used and it's small enough to throw in a travel bag or even if needed, to slip in your pocket. It really is plug-n-play and I've used it on both Windows and Chrome OS devices with no problems. The drive is recognized immediately and I've been able to run stuff directly from the SSD as well as transfer media back and forth on both OS devices with zero issues so far.So far good value for the money.

Cheap but incredibly useful external hard drive converter
Like many enthusiasts, I have a number of internal 2.5" hard drives -- in my case, small SSDs -- in a drawer. This case effectively replaces the SATA connection with a USB 3 connection, allowing me to use these drives.I plugged one of the first SSDs I purchased -- an OCZ Trion 256GB model into the drive. After figuring out how to get it apart (the clamshell slides apart -- don't pry it), I used the included USB 3 A to USB-C cable, plugged it into the front of my computer and it was detected immediately. No drivers needed. As a test, I copied a 5GB file from my C-drive SSD to this device over a USB 3 connection and the transfer rate initially zoomed to 120MB/sec (that's bytes, not bits) but then dropped and swayed between 50 and 80MB/sec. Not too shabby. Why not 5 stars? The case is plastic. It includes some sticky felt pads with no instructions as to what these are four -- I'd imagine they are to stabilize a skinny drive in the case so it won't rattle around, but no way of knowing. But the bigger issue is heat. The shell is plastic without ventilation, and I'd expect a hard drive to get quite warm. The instructions say the drive will sleep after 10 minutes, and this might be to help protect the drive, but it really needs some kind of heat sink. This is not a problem for an SSD unless it's heavily used. And if you're archiving onto a hard drive, you might not run it long enough for overheating to be come a problem. Finally, one warning before I go further: SSDs are NOT a good backup medium, as the cells lose their charges unless refreshed. If you back up, and put it on the shelf, don't expect your data to still be good after a year -- maybe a lot sooner. For the price, though, it makes a bare SSD or maybe even a 2.5" hard drive that's sitting in a drawer at least a little useful.

makes it easy for us to backup our data
Great to have old SSD portable and use it as an external backup drive to go. This is much better than using a thumb drive because this is so much faster. The UASP relieves overhead that makes the transfer speed faster. This enclosure supports UASP, Trimming and regular USB port. The maximum size supported is 6TB. That's a really high threshold which ensures future usability for some time. Unlike the m.2 drive, the older 2.5 SSD runs cooler at a slower speed. As long as there is no need to transfer 200GBs of data everyday, the older 2.5 SSD is still practical for me.Installation is so easy and straight forward. No tool is needed. The sticky pad helps minimize vibration. The pink color is very cool for a lady. My wife loves this. I use this to backup her data. This tool makes it easy for us to have a portable backup that we can bring anywhere we go. We can backup even our pictures during travelling emptying our camera's SD card or cloning our camera's SD card if the SD card is not full.

Quite Sturdy
I installed a SATA SSD into this holder. It was very easy to open the case, slide the drive into the socket on the PCB inside and close the lid. The plastic casing is a better quality than a similar enclosure I have. It feels more sturdy, but I would not attempt a drop test with it. I had no issues getting the drive to connect when I plugged in the USB cable. Performance was as good as can be expected from a USB 3 connection. This is a good drive enclosure that works well.

Great performance!
There’s a lot to like about this package:- tool-less install of the drive- fits a full size 2.5” drive, not just a short one- comes with optional padding to help hold a shorter drive in place- great performance. I got over 330MB/sec writing large files to the shown SSD, twice as fast as my mSATA enclosure that I thought was hot- usb-C interface on the enclosure makes it easy to replace the cable if neededI have a couple of problems though:- it feels cheap. I thought it was going to have a rugged rubbery feel, but it’s just plastic. It feels like a toy, and doesn’t seem like it will provide much protection to the drive. Any case is better than no case, but still.- there’s nothing here to help diffuse heat from a drive. If you use this with an SSD or HDD that warms up, it could get hot in there. For occasional or intermittent use, this will be fine, but don’t plan on leaving it plugged in 24x7.
