Organic Hemp Reusable Coffee Filter (1, No.2 Flat)

Works as advertised
I like it and would recommend it to others.I have used it in substitution for the white, bleached, paper disposable coffee filters. These disposable filters are convenient, and make good coffee and are easy to use. However, of course, I don’t like the idea of throwing the used filters away. (Even though paper is a natural, biodegradable product).Upon delivery, the new filter is noticeably whiter than after having been used. The hemp cloth filter will darken a little after usage. The cloth filter is very easy to clean. I recommend multiple rinsing to get rid of all the absorbed brew solids so that they do not remain and impair the flavor of the next coffee made.Note to self: don’t use dish wash soap to wash out the coffee filter to get it cleaned better unless you like your next cup of coffee to come with bubbles!I have use the metal mesh coffee filters previously. This hemp cloth filter is better in that the coffee made has almost no fines or sediment compared to coffee made with the metal mesh filter. The coffee made with the hemp filter does taste a little differently than when made with a paper filter. I think the coffee oil does tend to come through the hemp filter more than in a paper filter. Some people like this richer coffee flavor profile; I don’t personally.West of the Mississippi, most people drink their coffee black while east of the Mississippi coffee with cream and sugar is generally preferred. Consequently, the type of coffee and the degree of roasting varies with these regional taste preferences. (Of course, people are moving everywhere all the time and these regional preferences are always intermixing). Consumers who use cream and sugar in their coffee generally prefer a darker roast with more robusta coffee content. In contrast, those who drink their coffee black often prefer a lighter roast and more arabica coffee bean content. Especially Colombian arabica beans. I think that people who drink their coffee with cream and sugar would especially enjoy the richer coffee flavor profile that results from the coffee oils being allowed to infuse into the coffee from the hemp filter. For those who like their coffee black, I have found helpful to cut back modestly on the amount of roast and ground coffee used to make the coffee. (and have to accept that I have to drink more than one cup of coffee in order to get the essential minimum dosage of caffeine required! Still another first world problem to endure with grace and humor)

I'm Loving This So Far
I really like this Organic Hemp Cone Coffee Filter. I just started using it and am thinking of getting another so one can dry out completely while using another. I'm concerned about mildew build-up in general. Don't know if that can happen with this, but just in case.I would recommend dampening it with some hot water from your kettle before putting fresh coffee grounds in it. I find when it's wet nicely the flow of coffee is slowed down a bit so you may be able to get a richer coffee experience.Highly recommend.

Smart Cost effective coffee filter
Easy to use coffee filter. 60-seconds to clean after use. I don't make a big deal of cleaning it: Scrape the used grounds into the garbage can, rinse, re-use. Some people prefer saving their 60-seconds but spend their money for throw out filters. In the American Consumer society paper throw-outs, like paper towels, have made market claims. The planet gets what the Consumer society throws at it. I just decided to stop throwing paper at it, and got this great hemp filter. Simple.

So few wasted filters
So I LOVE THIS THING!! Mostly because I use it for camping so it makes it really easy to use since I don;t have to get new filters. I mean lets be honest here, I could have bought a packet of 100....maybe that number was a little high but you get my point, but The waste a little less and it makes it easier than just throwing out a bunch of filters. #saving the environment. Ahh what the hell do I care If I did the hashtag thingy wrong I don't pay attention to these things. Anyway it is really handy and I thoroughly enjoy it. I didn't rate it a 5 on the flavor because frankly I couldn't really taste the, as my grandpa says "Paper". But unlike most of the upcoming generation I did not start drinking coffee until I was 24, so I don't have as much experience with drinking it as say a 9th grader. #SHOTSFIRED........but yeah I enjoy it and its 2019 so try and save the planet and stuff

Shown brown, delivered white- looks bleached
Shown as brown and “natural” in the photo, but in person it is white and looks bleached. Thought I was getting a more natural product

Great for reducing paper waste
I bought this hemp filter for my husband's pour-over coffee. I want him to cut down on paper waste and it is sometimes hard to find #2 filters. This ensures that he always has a #2 filter and that he will reuse it. I had to "season" the filter first by boiling it in baking soda and coffee. The filter looks coffee-stained, but that is fine. When done you just have to dump the grounds, rinse it out and hang it to dry on a towel rack. It doesn't even have to be dry to use. I was a bit worried because it isn't supposed to be used for fine grind coffee and my husband makes his own blend of Goya (which is fine grind) and Tim Horton's (maybe medium grind). My daughter and I used it with Cafe du Monde, a medium grind coffee, with success. The directions say to clean with water and vinegar or soap occasionally so it doesn't clog. I am happy with this product so far.

the filter for minimalists
Broke yet another glass carafe to Fr. press...now using pour over and very glad to have found this natural, eco. filter. Pretty easy to clean, you will have grounds in sink after emptying filter but a much easier task in cleaning up than with the French Press. Coffee is delicious- just have to find a non- plastic cone.

Funny taste, nightmare to clean
I've edited this review after 6 weeks of use. I was really pleased initially, slow drip makes a really rich coffee and I had no issues with funny tastes. However, after a lot of use my level of satisfaction has reduced considerably. Despite loving the slow drip, I've now decided it's just too long. Cleaning is a real pain. If I give it a good rinse it out with water then after a few days my coffee starts to taste stale. If I wash it in the machine with my dark then it comes out really clean but leaves a strange after taste. I've tried every permutation and can't find a suitable way to keep this clean. It's a great idea but just doesn't seem to work. It is also too expensive to change weekly. I've gone back to my metal filter and have ordered some papers.Personally, I don't reccomend.

Works great as long as you follow these tips...
As a coffee afficianiado here are my top tips to make sure this works correctly:Grind size should be fairly course, if holes are getting clogged then you're grind is way to fine. After use rinse and wash but do not leave to air dry. If using daily then place in cup of water in fridge or if not using daily then place in freezer. This keeps the cloth filter moist but cold which keeps from going a bit mildewy over time. Always rinse filter before use.I like this filter and it works well and definitely let's more of the coffee oils through.Works as intended

They became rotten
At first it worked great, so much that I bought a second one, but now they both smell weird no matter how much I wash them and the coffee tastes like mould, really disappointed.

makes the coffee taste terrible!
Washed it, used it. Coffee tasted terrible. Rinsed it, washed it, rinsed it, used it.... coffee tasted terrible. Went back to paper filters, coffee tastes great.
