Does the top part tilt up? My piano key cover has a slight angle to it

The lock is U shaped and slides on/off. The keyboard cover will slightly lift when the lick is on but not enough to pinch fingers. It was very effective for us to keep grandsons out of the piano unless supervised

Does this work for a digital piano, or is there a danger of the screws damaging the electronics?

This device will not work with most digital pianos. It requires a cover over the keyboard and the gap between the jaws of the clamp is calibrated for a standard acoustic piano. Also the screws that hold the lower lock in place are designed for wood attachment. The screws would damage the plastic or metal housing of a digital piano.

Do you have to use the screws or is there an option to install without them?

Yes, the screws are needed as there really isn't any other way to attach the bracket to the piano.

Do I have to screw the bottom into the piano? How does it install?

Yes, the base screws into the piano underneath the keybed with four screws. When the lock is not in use the base will be visible (the front of the base measures 3/4" x 2"). When the lock is fully uninstalled and removed from the piano the four screw holes will not be visible as they are underneath the piano. The lock comes with full instructions for installation.
