is this ok for outdoor use?

Mine is OK outside and no air bubbles...

I recently purchased one of these and it has 'developed' a bubble. is this normal

I think you might have a problem...If it is on the Maximum Side you can heat it up until the fluid rejoins . If it is on the Minimum side past the maxim cold temp. you can get, there is a problem. Be careful if you have to heat it (with a flame) because the plastic chars & melts very easily. Mercury is heavy and easily rejoins with tapping, alcohol or something similar does not. If you purchased fairly recently send it back.

This has become defective. the pink mercury! has separated and the instrument has not been dropped to my knowledge. will you replace it please. roger

Usually holding the unit at the top and swinging hard it at arms length forces the liquid together.
