Best projector for its price range! But you must set the picture up right..settings below
Hi - i have tried them all! from $80 to 1500 projectors including a couple of Optomas and Benq. UHD50x is the one I am keeping!Make sure to use a quality projector screen! The effect is simply amazing. To maximize the quality of your pic - use the settings below as it really makes a difference (thanks to a poster/PSINERD on reddit where i got it from)A couple of quick things - it is NOT 240HZ unless you connect to a PC and you wont even get 4k@120HZ with a standard connection like firestick or chromecast. Beyond that it works really well - and super fun to watch movies in UHD!--------------------Main MenuDisplay Mode: HDR should be selectedWall color: Off (you are using a proper screen, no?)Enhanced gaming: offAspect ratio: autoEdge mask, Digital zoom, keystone, Image shift all should ideally be off or zero for the best image quality.Image Settings Sub-menuBrightness: 0Contrast: 50Sharpness: 15Color: 8Tint: 0Gamma: GraphicsUltra detail: offDynamic black: off (causes annoying brightness changes)Dynamic Range Sub-sub-menuHDR/HLG: autoHDR Picture Mode: Standard or detail (to taste--may need to play with this one a bit, but I find that bright washes out the highlights)Color Settings Sub-sub menuBrilliant Color: 5Color temperature: D75 (or to taste. Getting the full picture is great... getting half the picture is not.
The projector is great when it works. I upgraded from a BenQ 720p short throw and can happily see the difference when watching the same movies. It also does a great job despite having a large amount of light in the room. It's better of course when you can eliminate other room lighting, but for those of you with difficulties doing so, this projector is a good option (if not for the technical concerns outlined below).Comparing it against my previous short throw, the picture is considerably smaller. Using the same throw distance (roughly 10'), I lose about 30" of screen diagonally. The resulting throw is about 108". There is also a fairly large shadow that surrounds the screen, but I understand this is due to the chipset that is used in the projector and is common for others in the same price range. Overall, I would highly recommend going 4k when choosing your next project. The reason I'm giving this only 1 star is due to the limited amount of time I've been able to enjoy the projector. After mounting it, getting the picture dialed in, and watching a few movies from my Xbox, I noticed that it is frequently needing to change the resolution between apps. While this is mildly annoying since it will blank out the picture for about 5 seconds, the projector I have is not particularly good at changing the resolution. As time goes by, changing resolution more often than not results in losing the left half of the picture (see attached photo). I noticed it happen the first time about 2 weeks after mounting it, and now that a month has gone by, I'm seeing it multiple times a day.I currently have a ticket open through Optoma and hope to get a handle on why the picture is dropping out. This is easily a 5-star projector if not for the technical issues that I hope are unique to mine.

Excellent 4K for the money!
This is the second 4K projector I am trying. I have an in focus X 10 1080 P projector which I was looking to replace. I also have a review on the ViewSonic 747.Pros: Compared to the other XRP pixel shifting projectors, this one by far has the darkest black levels and the least gray border around the screen that I have seen. (ALL xrp based projectors will have a light gray boarder around the picture.) overall I find The black levels are excellent, the colors are phenomenal, and I find the contrast to be exceptional. If you’re looking for a budget 4K projector for home theater, this is it. It is bright and can even be used with some lights on. IMO the pj is quieter than all my previous projectors, some of which (crt) required a hush box! Lens shift and EXCELLENT focus make this pj easy to adjust. It also has digital keystone and image shift is absolutely needed.Cons: There definitely are crt and digital 1080 P projectors that have better black levels with similar contrast and color quality. I’m going to tell you that my opinion is those half million to one contrast type numbers are only under certain conditions and are generally exaggerated. Do some research and find where people that have had the equipment have actually measure these projectors. There is some light spill from the unit, but I do not find it objectionable at all.Summary: If you’re on a budget for 4K home theater this is an excellent value. It does support 3-D under certain conditions. If you’re looking for a presentation projector where brightness is a huge factor (and black levels do not matter), and you’re on a budget, you might be better off with the ViewSonic 747 . But for movies and TV and a light controlled room, I absolutely love this projector! To say that I love this projector is to say a lot, because I have had everything from crt like the sony 1030, 1031, 1272, d50, barco, benq, and a bunch of digital / others even including other optima projectors. There is no question in my mind that no (current, reasonably priced) digital projector is going to match the black level of CRT. But this projectors compromises on that certainly make up for the ease-of-use, the size, resolution, out of box color accuracy, focus and many many other factors. Again, I love this projector and I would highly recommend it!
