Top notch, high-quality, great tarp/tent poles. Very versatile.
Top notch, great tarp/tent poles. High quality & very versatile. I have used these over & over for several years on camping trips. They are strong (for telescoping poles). With the rubber cap, they can be used in the center of tarps without puncture. They will support a lot of weight. I see a few reviews that show poles broken in half. These are hollow, light, telescoping poles. If substantial horizontal pressure is put on them - yes, at some point they will snap - like any other thin horizontal pole. They are not solid pipes and not intended to be. They will likely withstand forces that other similar telescoping poles will not. If you intend to use them fully extended in 20+ mile an hour winds at the beach or in the desert, then you can expect them to break. Its not a flaw. Get yourself some pipe or conduit if you need that kind of support; and/or add more guy lines. For supporting tarps & tents while camping and keeping sun or rain off of you, these work great and will last. The only problem I've ever had was the telescoping function 'sticking' after the poles become muddy/dirty. This is to be expected and is easily solved by cleaning with water. I should also mention that I've never had any problem with the telescoping sections 'slipping' at all.

Sturdy poles plus stakes, rope, and a tarp equal robust camping cover goodness
I used four of these telescoping poles along with a 10x10 foot Aqua Quest Guide tarp, eight stakes (two per pole) and Nite Ize Reflective Cord to tie each pole from tip to ground at two points each. The result was exceptionally stable in heavy wind, bright sun, high 90's temps, and light nighttime rain along the Metolius River for a wonderful week of camping. The poles were easy to telescope up to the desired height and tighten to ensure a slip-free extension, on the first try without consulting instructions. The diameter of even the smallest pole section was sufficiently large to ensure that the entire pole length when extended to eight feet high had zero wobble. This enabled me to tighten the ropes with simple double half hitch knots to pull the corners of the tarp nice and taut. Even after four days of camping, the tarp remained taut and the poles showed no sign of slipping. The rubber bottoms also held firmly against the sandy ponderosa pine forest floor. I especially liked the easy-tighten turn expansion lock on the pole segments that had a nice ergonomic feel to them. Aesthetically, they look great especially with the snazzy silicone round slide-on tips that cover the stainless steel screw on tips that fit into the tarp's corner holes. I was surprised by how light-weight the poles were given their healthy bulk. Although I wouldn't likely hike these in for miles, they were excellent given the "Glamping" that I did with the car just 500 feet away. They telescoped down to a length that was short enough to comfortably fit into my modestly sized rooftop Thule bag, with length room to spare at the ends. These poles together with the tarp packed to a much smaller size than a pop-up canopy tent, yet capably performed the same desired function, providing exceptional relief from the sun to the labrador retriever puppy dog's crate and playpen for a stretch of days without any muss or fuss. Note: Their customer service was excellent. They recently began including the silicone round slide-on tips with the poles. The first set I ordered was before this addition. I wrote a brief email to them and within less than 24 hours they responded and had pair in the mail free of charge that arrived in time for my next camping trip.

6 mo. Addendum -Probably the best tarp poles available - but pricey
Addendum after 6 mo usage: These poles have proven very versatile around the campsite. To date, I have not experienced any mechanical problems, bends, or rust. At this point, I have purchased a total of six poles and plan to add another set. So I am satisfied. Recently, use poles to hold up a 10'x10' fly. Heavy rains that night. When breaking camp, noticed that several of the poles had appreciable water inside. Needed to remove rubber foot boot and drain poles overnight. Am considering drilling a weep hole in foot boot to allow drainage. Also, to facilitate carrying & storage, purchased a 42" canvas bag (Gator GPA-SPKRSPBG-42DLX). Will hold 8 poles. Quite an investment, but worth it to have comfort & convenience when camping. Wish I had bought them much earlier in my camping career. I do a lot of "dry" camping. And, the need for a tarp fly to keep sun and rain off the picnic table is really desirable. No problem finding a suitable lightweight coated nylon tarp. But the poles ..... aargh. First, I tried surplus 4 ft military tent poles - Required lots of modification and were large, heavy, and hard to store. (But strong). Next, I tried el cheapo adjustable steel poles - worked AOK until some rain. Rusted, crimped, ugly to handle. Threw them away. So now I am going to try the Green Elephant poles. Pros - at the lowest section they are 1.75 in diameter and should be pretty strong. They deploy and adjust instantaneously. Lightweight and store easily. And, they come with a carrying sack. Cons - hearsay is that I will have trouble with the clamping mechanisms and the tips may rust. Ehhhh. Biggest negative is the price .... because don't just need two, you need four or six for a typically fly. That's pretty good money for a rain tarp. I would like to see the vendor offer sets of four and six at some decent discount per pole.

well made poles
These poles are easy to use, lock well, have plenty of height and seem to be robust. I wish I had ordered more of them for our screenhouse rainfly flaps to replace our old aluminum poles that corrode and don't stay up.

The best poles on the market
What’s in the box: 1 carrying bag 2 poles 2 silicone covers 2 reflective stickers 1 brochure From the moment I opened the bag and held the pole in my hand I was very impressed by the quality of the materials. It is beautiful and impressive, lightweight and stable. Without reading the instructions I managed to extend the pole. The locking mechanism is easy and intuitive to operate. Most importantly, I checked the strength of the locking mechanism and it is clearly firm and strong for any need. After a few days I went out to test the poles with my new BYOND tarp. The construction was quick and easy mainly thanks to the large adjustment range of the pole and the easy locking mechanism. I left the tarp with the poles at night and in the morning despite the winds and the dew everything was in place! In conclusion: There is no doubt that these are the most professional poles in the market. It is clear that Green Elephant invested much thought in planning and manufacturing these poles. The poles are very easy to operate. As for the silicone covers and the option of removing the tip, I do not know if I will use it, but it's good to know it is there to be used, if and when needed. I will update my review after our summer vacation at bald Head island.

Great poles !!!
I bought these poles for a wilderness camping trip last weekend. Poles are lightweight, easily adjustable and worked very well. A little flimsy/bendy at full extension, but I guess that’s to be expected. I chose to use them at about 7ft and they were rock solid. The storage bag is nice. Just make sure you alternate the poles up/down in the bag. I think the most valuable option they offer is that you can quickly adjust them to meet changing weather conditions/needs. I really needed a 5th pole for my setup, but made do with a long stick. I’ll be buying a set of 2 poles to complete my setup needs. If you need tarp poles, buy these 100%.
