And she COOKS!
This is a great starter for anyone wanting to cook Mexican food traditionale'. And maybe some ingredients will be hard to find but most not, which is good. Watch her show and follow along with her cookbook.

Lives up to its title
This is my first cookbook by Marcela. I love viewing her Foodnetwork series, she's a delight--articulate, passionate and just totally enjoyable with her lively personality. She is interesting to watch and learn from and a big reason I bought this cookbook. This cookbook may have a repeat of some of her TV recipes, but I certainly haven't seen the bulk of them. I have made 3 recipes so far. We really liked her version of "chocolate-pasilla sauce" a mole ("made easy" of course). It was a wonderful sauce, I froze half for another night. I've made the more complicated versions of mole with its long list of ingredients, but I don't have the time lately to do that. This is just as good and much simpler, a satisfying mole that I will gladly make again and again. Book has lots of pictures, easy instructions. Her mac & cheese Mexican-style was good, and I've made the basic recipe by switching out Mexican cheeses for Italian and using Italian mezzi rigatoni, etc...it's my new go-to comfort food dish; not good for the waistline, but tis the season.

I saw this book on a T.V. talk show and went right to the computer and ordered the kindle version. I have never cooked Mexican before and boy have we been missing out. These are the kind of recipes you would actually want to eat for dinner and get filled up on. The instructions are very clear and everything I've made so far has been really really good. This is home cooking Mexican Style. The author makes cooking a very personal experience with stories and tidbits from her life and her family. The food is hearty and if like me you are afraid of the spicy heat, it's easy to tone it down. I am becoming a whiz with the chili's and hot peppers. I would highly recommend this cook book. I'm just glad my kindle is tough enough for kitchen duty. Plus the author comes across as such a sweet person. She was a delight to listen to on the talk show.

I love Marcela Valladolid
I love this cooking book and her TV show. The book is awesome, and has so many amazing recipes. So far what we have like the best in my house is the al pastor burgers, we used beef since we do not eat pork. I cannot say it taste like al pastor, but the taste is amazing anyway. Most likely it is because of not using pork. Friends came over who love burgers, and said it was the most burger they have eaten. I also did her Chicken Adobado in the over. Amazing!!!! I know in the Mexican Grocery store they sell this, and to be honest as Mexican, I would never have guessed that it is seasoned with Chiles Guajillos. I made this over 5 times in a week, for my husband, for people coming over. Everyone said best Chicken adobado ever!!!! Even my dad the critic said it was amazing! i am so glad, i got this book!

Auténtico!
My mother is Mexican-American. My grandmother was born and reared in Chihuahua. This is authentic, delicious Mexican food. I have all three of her books, and if she put out another one tomorrow, I'd get that one too. This book has the most fabulous and dead easy recipe for Mexican Pickled Onions. A hands-down favorite condiment. My neighbor uses the liquid to make salad dressings. Use a red onion and be prepared to be wowed!

...maybe too easy.
A nice selection of Mexican recipes. Well organized. "Mexican Made Easy"...maybe too easy. She defaults completely to canned beans and hominy, with only a perfunctory apology to her mom for the hominy. I would like a little discussion on the selection and use of dried products as well. How do you soak and cook dried pozole? The cross-referencing and indexing in the Kindle version are nice. Oh, how about menudo?Jim

I really like this book
I really like this book. The recipes are all approachable and her instructions and clear and easy to follow. I have found that I've had to adjust seasoning for my own taste but that's fair enough. I'm glad I bought this book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try making easy Mexican meals at home. These are not Tex-Mex recipes; they're Mexican and seem to be on the lighter side in comparison.

Too spicy
Does all Mexican food have to be spicy hot? I don't think all Mexican cooks put hot chilies in everything? I've read books and tried foods by real Mexican cooks that don't make you gasp and grab a glass of milk. Slow down. Mexican food can be creative and excellent and Marcela does some but not enough. Where is the Mexican hot chocolate that is sweet, cinnamon and wonderful with deep flavors? I bought this book because of watching her on The Kitchen and she is adorable with her children, but not that great with the cookbook.
