Don’t be confused, this is not a Japanese tatami mat. It is a tatami like area rug. I was aware of this before my purchase so it doesn’t affect my review. Soft enough to do yoga or PT exercises on, but not thick and soft enough to comfortably sleep on with a single futon on top. Stacking two futons will give you both the support and softness of a Japanese tatami. There is a faint smell of the rush grass but it will subside over a short period of time. Recommendations: *Don’t walk on it with outdoor shoes *If vacuuming, move your vacuum in the direction of the weaving. *Do not put furniture on top of it Enjoy it for what it is. The price is okay.

I bought this months ago because my senior dog could no longer get on my bed. This was the perfect solution, she walks right on it now. It does still have that grass scent to it, natural -not funky. It has a felt like material on the bottom side so it won’t scratch my floors. And the thick woven grass keeps ventilation so it won’t mold. Perfect queen size. I like that it came in 2 folding halves, making it easily moved.

Love it. It's two mats and they aren't *exactly* the same size but I don't mind at all. I put cheap shelf liner strips under these to hold them in place on the floor a little better, seems to work alright. The rushes do smell strongly and not in a good way at first, but as the mats air out it's not so bad, it even mixes with my floral reed diffuser somewhat pleasantly. I expect it'll get more subtle with time. They're smooth and relaxing. My favorite thing is that they really complete my living room space, it's perfect for sitting on the floor with my knitting and tea when I want to decompress. I'm really glad I decided to get these instead of just sitting on the floor, even if it's only a little padding it clearly designates the space for relaxing purposes only. Just need some wall paint and it'll be heaven!

I like it, it smells of grass which is comforting to me but your uncultured guests might wonder if you secretly eat hay. Unfortunately it comes in two pieces instead of one, which was what I expected from the pictures. Folds up into squares. I'm planning to just put some tape down underneath it in the middle, it's quite slippery. I like lying down on it and reconsidering my Amazon purchases, but I wouldn't sleep the night on it.

The smell is awful. Didnt go away no matter how long we aired it out, even after a month. I wish I returned it when I had the chance because it was a complete waste of money.

I would not recommend buying this mat. I originally bought a tatami mat (twin/cot size) from this company a few years ago, and I thought I would be receiving the same good quality. However, when I was reading through the reviews on this product and the issue of "smell" came up, I thought it was an exaggeration. It has now been 3 weeks and it still smells so grassy for no reason. The mat itself is foldable but incredibly thin. If I were you, please get a thicker mat with less fragrance, even if you have to spend more. I wish I did.

Have used this mat daily for several months with no issues or problems. This mat is opened and closed daily to use as a base for a roll up mattress that gets put away in the closet each morning. There has been no tears but a couple small loose fibers here and there. Love the real grass smell! If you are looking for this style of japanese floor mat then look no further! Great price for an amazing product.
