Q: Can this be used to prune pond plants?

I have used this trimmer for four years but not in in the water but I would imagine it couild cut pond plants easily. Extra care woiuld need to be taken to dry the cutting surfaces each time and perhaps apply a little lubrication or WD-40.

Q: How can I get the locking lever to engage (lock)? I recd this today. Unlocked it and now the lever won't fit back in locking position!

You need to squeeze pretty hard on the grip to open the notch enough so the lock will engage. My locking lever was also pretty still after I just got the pruner. It loosened up with time so it's now easier to engage. jim

Q: Would this be able to cut through tall bamboo canes?

I love this pruner. It is very light weight and easy to use. The maximum cutting width is 1/2 inch. I don't have bamboo canes but just a lot of trees on a wooded lake lot. I don't think you will be disappointed.

When I look at their 5 ft option, it looks to me that the pole is 59", the pruner part is 2", and the handle is almost 8". I don't see where it says anything about 78".
