no manual but when downloaded very easy to use
The only real problem at first sight was the lack of a manual. Fortunately I'd was very easy to get an English version from the Internet.Having an in ear headset was certaintly a nice touch. Batteries were easy to fit. Will update in a few days.updatepity about no manual but downloaded one. followed insrtructions and found the device pretty easy to use in my application which was tracing a boundary wire for a robotic mower. the detector located the wire within a few millimetres. pretty impressive.based on my experiences the device has to be recommended.

No instructions but actually did the job quite well
I wanted to trace a buried mains cable which ran from my garage to the house.I purchased this unit with some trepidation, as it has had very mixed reviews. It arrived with absolutely no instructions (although I read that other reviewers who did get instructions found them very poor). However, I found some helpful hints in reviews on the Amazon.com (US) site.Having isolated the cable at the contact breaker in the house, I connected one side of the transmitter to the live conductor at the garage end, and the other side to an earth rod (a piece of metal pipe, driven about a foot into the ground). I was then able to follow the buried cable successfully to the house. Note that the received tone increases as the detector approaches the cable, goes to null when directly above it and increases again on the other side until it eventually drops off.In my case, the cable was only about 6" to 12" below the surface and was ordinary T&E in a plastic conduit (yes, I will be replacing it with armoured). Whether it would have found armoured cable I don't know.Anyway, the device worked for me and cost less than hiring a "proper" detector.

Useful addition to Robomower - Update to my previous review
I found the instruction by accident they are tucked in the back of the case. the other thing worth noting is that it is advisable to put the detector in cable end first as it east to accidentally turn it on as you push it in. but having now used it few times I am more impressed with it, one because of the way I have set up my robomower so that it enables me to test the loop in zones and two because I have had two unusual breaks in the wire that weren't obvious one was due to ants using my conduit as an express way and the other was due to something corroding the wire on both occasions I was able to narrow the fault down to a very small area and on both occasions it was spot on. just to recap each time I fit a connector I add a third wire that acts as a tail which I initially connect back to the both side of the mower station in turn to narrow down the break area I then disconnect all wires from the mower base station and connect the sender device to the tail and move it from it until the signal stops, works great once you perfect the process but depends on knowing where your wire is. My total loop is more than 400 metres and I can find a break a few minutes using this method, unfortunately it doesn't stop the fox from digging up the wire up and chewing it, it usually pulls out about 5 to 6 metres

Great timesaver - and it works a treat
We knew our garden landscaper had managed to sever our automower boundary wire in a couple of places and we'd fixed these properly. However, the charging station still had the flashing blue light so we ordered this wire locator. After watching a couple of You Tube videos ( the locator didn't come with any instructions), I was pleased to see that my repairs had been successful. Moving further along the loop, I detected another break where a fence had been replaced and found the broken wire immediately. Repaired it and the system is now fully working. Without this tech, It would've taken me ages to locate the problem or a lot more money to call out a specialist. Well worth the money but probably won't be used much at all in future, unless of course the wire is cut again !

easy to use
I liked the volume feature. did not like the fact that no instructions were included.

Doesn't work for me
Doesn't do the job at all.

Found the break in my Landroid boundary wire
Wasn't sure this would work, but my Worx Landroid was showing a 'wire missing' message and green light on the base station, which then turned red a couple of days later. I tried the trick with an AM radio and it didn't work so ended up buying this. Really simple, unplug the wires from the base station, put the red clip on to one of the wires and leave the other one loose (you don't need to use the black clip). Then follow the wire with the detector until tone stops. Break found, repaired and mower working again. One point off because there's a slider where up is on, the middle is off and down is battery test. I left it in battery test and drained it overnight! And I think it's slightly overpriced.

Excellent for finding breaks in robomow perimeter wire
Having been quoted nearly £300 for a bit of kit to find my cut perimeter wire I decided to give this a go. Within 10 mins of opening the package i had found where a mole had broken the wire.Brilliant . Probably not the most robust but performs perfectly
