The Best of Marc Bolan & T. Rex (Guitar Tab) Paperback – Illustrated, 4 Dec. 2003

The tabs seem to be bang on with the songs they are meant to sound like. The case a lot of the time with guitar books is they are horribly inaccurate, use the wrong chord voicings, all sorts. Not this one though, seems right and these songs are so much fun to play, they included all the hits.And p.s. stick at it with ride a white swan, on paper it looks like a confusing bunch of zeroes and twos, but once you get the rhythm of it, it’s a great song to play.

Good, clear and easy to follow

It's amazing how, with a few simple chords and a spaced out hippy head such enduring classics can be madeYou'd think that replicating them would be easy and in some cases this is true, but for some reason that tricky Mr Bolan could make the simple sound so much more

Excellent book with a lot of interesting information. It kept my husband happy for hours. Well worth buying.

Ich vergebe vier Sterne, weil es schwer ist, überhaupt Marc-Bolan-Noten zu finden. Allerdings habe ich einige der guten Songs vermisst. Das ist natürlich subjektiv, jeder hat andere Lieblingsstücke. Ich hätte mir auch ein Buch mit mehr Songs gewünscht, aber den Inhalt konnte ich ja vorher nachlesen, ich wusste also, welche Songs dieses Buch enthält. Es sind außerdem ein paar gute Bilder von Marc auf den ersten Seiten zu sehen. Die einzelnen Songs enthalten einmal die Notierung für den Gesang, einmal für die Begleitung, einmal die Tabs. Hinten ist ein Anhang, der noch einmal die Spieltechniken erläutert, also Tipps zur Durchführung gibt.

I almost didn't buy this book because I couldn't find the list of contents anywhere. Now, I'm so glad I ordered it. This is a great book for all of us Marc Bolan fans. It's 87 pages with detailed tabs plus standard notation. The book itself is very high quality paper and print. It's very legible. I was a little worried it might be low quality but rest assured it's really very well printed and bound. I just got this yesterday so I really haven't had a lot of time to review the detail of the tab but it looks excellent. I'll update this review after I play the songs. It is a little expensive for a tab book but as far as I know it's the only T-Rex tab collection out there. That makes it worth the price of admission. I went through a crazy Marc Bolan obsession when I bought this book. It has really good transcriptions of each song, and to my ear is pretty close to what the album does. The only problem w/this book is the song selection. For some reason they pick out a lot of the older stuff which isn't really all that exciting to play on guitar. A lot of the older songs are simple boogies, or very easy chord progressions. I knew this going in, but I hadn't heard much of his work beyond Slider and didn't realize the songs were like that. If you're like me and like Electric Warrior and Slider then there are a few cuts on here for you but the rest is older stuff. Jeepster is a good one to know, and the little lead licks are fun to learn. I loved figuring out Debora as well. Hot Love is a great song but it's so easy to figure out on your own you don't really need the tab. Jewel and Elemental Child would have been welcome additions to the book as they could have challenged us more experienced guitarists. Also, stuff like Buick McKane, Slider, Lifes A Gas, Rip Off, and Raw Ramp are the kind of songs real Rex fans want in their tab books. Not this weak Laser of Love junk. If you want better tab books I'd say get the Jimmy Hendrix's Are You Experienced book and definitely get the Chuck Berry Book by Hal Leonard. Once you get that stuff down you'll pretty much be able to pick apart the songs in this book on your own.
