Professional Jewelry Making: A Contemporary Guide to Traditional Jewelry Techniques

If you are looking for a book to start or advance jewelry techniques, whether you are student or experienced jeweler, look no further. This book is comprehensive guide, including formulas and tables for jewelers, explaining tools, best practices AND it has dozen of projects from simpler to complex ones with step by step, easy to read description and photos at each steps to guide you to a successful completion. You would be given access to Alan Revere’s 40 years of goldsmithing experience and teaching and he would walk you through creating : bangles, crochet chains, forged rings, basket pendants, solitaire cluster rings, etc. I cannot recommend it more. I love it and refer to this amazing book very often. A must read for anyone making jewelry!

The book is a "must have" for everyone who is seriously intending to make a higher level of jewelry. Is the best book I've ever bought in the matter (I have more than 10). It has clear step-by-step instructions and lots of fotographies that mark the path for the beginner jeweler to become a higher level jeweler maker. When you are at early stages in jewelry making, you can find plenty of books to learn those skills. But when you want to learn a little further, the books I've found for that, always skip the key step or just weren't clear enough to learn by reading and triying at home. However, in this book I've found everything I need. This is a good quality book, carefully written, and design.

This book has valuable information and techniques on jewelry fabrication. There are many projects with great step by step details on making the item.

At first I thought the price of this book was steep, but as soon as I started reading it, I realized it was worth every dollar I paid for it. Alan has a great way of teaching through making projects. Each piece of jewelry teaches you something new, and the advanced projects draw upon some of the earlier techniques you learned from easier/beginner projects to make some pretty complicated pieces of jewelry. I've already made the forged pearl ring (I used sterling instead of brass or gold) and made the tension backings for earring posts. You will learn how to make round and square tubing, curb chains, and even rope chains, for starters. If you want to learn how to make a lot of jewelry components you thought you had to order, take a look at this book. Alan even describes why you may have a need to make these things even if it doesn't seem cost effective for your business. Highly recommended!

This Book is my bible in learning the very important steps in silversmithing! Whether you are experience or a beginer I guarentee you will learn from this book! The step by step instructions are very clear and well written! In my photos you will see some of my projects that I accomplished only half way thru the book! This is a book I cherish and use to refresh myself when doing certain projects! A must have at your bench! You will not be sorry with this book!

This is my bible. It's very specifically designed for practical learning through a series of practical excercises, each one focused on one or two particular techniques. The finished result of each excercise is a beautiful, wearable piece of jewellery - and, for a student, it is, I think, the best of all books to learn from. The true beauties and values of this book, however, lie in the appendixes and tables of measurements and how to calculate measurements, volumes, weights - and in the fact that I have always been able to find the answer to any particular problem I face at the bench somewhere in its pages. I lost my original, full colour copy, and have been reduced to a black and white edition. If you can get either, add it to your library.
