I've purchased this same hard drive cage about three other times, so overall it's pretty reliable. (everyone I've used is still humming along just fine).I use the the external SATA (eSATA) connection to transfer large amounts of data ( on average I get about 60mb to 90mb a second with my set up) connection via USB 2.0 maxes out around 27mb to 29mb and that's too slow for what I need. So use the external serial connection if you can ( saves you hours of time)It really only has two cons, high-speed drives can get a little warm in this because it doesn't have a lot of ventilation, another issue is that drives don't seem to power-down or into sleep mode during idle times, like they do when they're connected internally. my remedy for this is just turning the unit off if I leave it hooked up overnight, that should take care of any wear and tear issues.other than all that, I definitely recommend it!

The description did not mention maximum capacity. After the product arrived, I read the specs on the box and realized the maximum capacity was 1.5 TB. My 3TB drive will not work with this enclosure. I gave it 5 stars because I had to provide a rating in order to post a review. Since I did not open the product, I am assuming it works as advertised for drives 1.5 TB and lower.I learned a valuable lesson: Amazon may have the best price, but not for product specs. I now verify product specs (for computer parts/accessories) with Newegg.com.

When my external drive died, I feared everything on it was gone (who thinks to backup the backup?). I found out the drive itself wasn't bad, it was the USB interface. This case replacement works great for me. It came faster than I expected and it was an easy install.

This is what you buy when you are only concerned about price, something you give away.I bought this because I needed an inexpensive eSATA enclosure to house my personal files (Google Drive) while @ work. It works but the switch it cheap.

Does as it's supposed to. I just wish these came with some venting or a fan but they will do fine for general use hard drives.

I bought it and it's defective, don't work. I have it on a shelf in the garage and was intent on returning it. Of course I forgot to do that but it was brought to mind by an email from Amazon today asking me to rate it. I bought another unit from this company and it works great.

I had their older product and the USB bus hung when I transferred big files using the USB 2.0 port. After I got this one, I immediately did the same test and it transferred the file and USB 2.0 speed with no problem at all!
