Taking safety for granted creates regret that sometimes cannot be removed. Swim buoys don't affect your stroke so for good swimmers, these buoys create visibility in the ocean if with others (which you should be) and buoyancy if needed for rest. Not to mentions you can place items inside and transport it due to a water tight seal.

This worked very well for some lake swimming. Boaters spotted me from far away and gave me a wave of acknowledgement, and my significant other could spot me easily from shore (which was not the case for the same swim without a buoy). I thought I could just clip it to my swimsuit strap and not put it around my waist, but that caused the buoy to be blown in front of me. It worked perfectly in fairly windy conditions with it around my waist. It wasn’t noticeable at all as I swam. I felt a lot safer and visible while swimming in the adirondacks in a lake that was shared with motorized boats/jet skis. I am plus sized and this fit me without being extended all the way.

Got this for scalloping with my son so he had a place to float in between dives. Unfortunately the strap is too short to be able to dive down to the bottom to pick up scallops. Bummer.
