Sharpening Stone Set, ASEL Whetstone 2-in-1 400/1000 3000/8000 Grit, Waterstone Wooden Holder and Knife Guide Included : desertcart.co.uk: Home & Kitchen Review: Need a super sharp knife? - I’ve not used a proper whetstone for a while but this is a great kit. To get the best results you do need to watch a few videos and practice on an old knife. I had a few knives that were razor sharp when I got them but over the years they’d become dull but i hadn’t noticed. Then I got a new knife and boy the old ones needed some work. Knives were blunt with lot of nicks and each too about 30 minutes to sharpen but it was well worth it - they are back to their best. Review: pretty good! - For the first time I've been able to sharpen my knives properly!!! It's been infuriating in the past not being able to get the sharpness and finish I want on my knives. I've tried all sorts of ways to sharpen and I just can't get the edge I want ... until now! I didn't see the point in the wooden holder as it came with rubber grips and I didn't use the Knife Guide as I seem to be pretty good at keeping an angle by myself freehand - it also isn't very long and easily drops off the edge of the stones, which is annoying. I can't think of any technique to use where I can use it efficiently without getting frustrated with it, so I've not used it. I've also notice that the rubber grips also don't grip so well on my kitchen sides, so I place a folded paper towel down under it and wet it. This sticks much better! There might be better ways of doing this, but I don't know them. There weren't any instructions which was annoying - you're kind of expected to know what every part is and what to do with it. Would be nice for a company to produce instructions for us amateurs out there. Perhaps whetstone sharpening is usually practised by those who know what they're doing? Who knows. To those of you who haven't used stones before to sharpen knives, please get to know what you're doing somewhat by watching YouTube vids first - there are a great many out there and many ways of approaching it.

Good introduction set.
Great set of sharpening stones for the money. I’ve sharpened all of my kitchen knives to a good standard. You won’t get a mirror finish but you will get a very sharp edge.

Great starter blocks
This is a good all round package for starting sharpening knives with a whetstone. It includes a variety of whetstones. It would have been nice to have some instructions in the package but there are plenty of instructional videos on the web. The block is sturdy and has a non stick bottom. If you’re new to this the wedge that slides onto your knife to give you the perfect angle is brilliant. I’ve used it on a selcetion of knives costing from £15 up to £130 with good effect. I only used the 400 stone on one which had some notable chips. I sharpened most with the 1000 following up with a polish on 8000. Each knife took about 15mins on each stone. I used the 3000 stone on my boning knife. I had heard that using the 8000 would make it too brittle and likely to break.

Wow wow wow
I have never had a set of whetstones before so I was dubious as to whether I would get a good result from this product. However I did some youtubing on how to do it correctly and I gave it a go. I have to say it took some time on the 400 stone as I had been using a crapy knife sharpener which had taken some chunks out of the edge of the knife. Once I had gotten the edge back to a smooth finish I went up to the 1000 side of the stone and began to get a keen edge. Once I could feel the it was getting very sharp I moved onto the 8000........... my knife is now like a razor blade!!!! This is a great little product and well worth the money. P.s through trying the European method and the Japanese, I would definitely recommend using the later as the stones are not overly long.

All you will need.
I’m seriously into knife sharpening and like to keep my collection razor sharp. I saw Burrfection review these. For a cheap set of stones, they are perfect and do the job well. After using them, plus a leather strop with a compound, my knives are sharp enough to shave my forearms. They will last for years. I’m glad I didn’t buy an expensive set.

Very good value
Sharpening edges properly with a wet stone requires several things - a) a stone where the facing surface doesn't disintegrate in five minutes, b) the correct technique and c) much patience! I can confirm that these stones are indeed of good quality with bases which hold steady in use - b) and c) above are down to the user! I'd urge purchasers to take a look at some of the many instruction videos to be found on YouTube.

Good bang for the buck but you might need to flatten your stone
