Tasty, good value and long dates!
Unlike some of the other supposed Szechuan peppercorns on Amazon these are really good quality- highly aromatic and superbly tasty! They’re a bargain at their regular price but I actually got them on a special deal for £7.99. The packaging is great too, sturdy and perfect to store them in and keep them fresh. Also looks good! They had good dates on them of sometime in 2026 (even though things like this don’t really spoil for quite some time after those dates anyway, they can just lose a bit of their kick if left too long). These are so flavourful that you can even just grind them up and mix with cornflour and chilli flakes to make a great coating for tofu etc. We do this then make a simple stir fry with the fried seasoned tofu, udon noodles, spring onions, green beans, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, sesame seeds and coriander. They can be used for plenty of dishes but that one is quick, tasty and cheap!

Wonderful Aroma
Clearly packed, the jars are easy to open and seal. The peppers give off a lovely aroma when opened and add that and taste to the dish. An important ingredient for 'two pepper cauliflower', one of my favourite recipes.

Better quality taste, beats the supermarket (that no longer stocks them)
A well known big brand supermarket stopped stocking these peppercorns. I bought these to try as an alternative and have found they are far stronger than the supermarket stocked product, so, I use less. Now that has to be a win win.

Waste of time
Terrible. I love Spicy accoutrements, but these were awful. I have given the 2 unopened packets away

I spent 3 weeks in Sichuan Province, China, in 2019. The food was beyond amazing! On my return, I was looking for Sichuan Peppercorns. We have a local small Asian grocery, and I got a bag of them from there. They were disappointing – no buzz, and hard seeds in the shells. Recently, after hearing a story on BBC about Sichuan cuisine, I decided to try again. I looked through a lot of options on Amazon and chose these. I confess that I was influenced by the Panda on the labels as well as the reviews. I've used them a couple of times now. I need to work on my cooking skills with them, but they definitely have the flavor and the buzz, and no hard seeds, just the shells, as they should. Since the package had three largish spice bottles, I put two in the freezer and one in my spice cabinet.

This stuff is the good stuff. I wasn't actually expecting to get three bottles of the peppercorns, but this should keep me going for a while. These are freshly dried, not old, so the flavor is on point and gives that nice numbing sensation just like it should!

UPDATE: I popped one of the berries in my mouth and chewed -- WOW. Intense tingling and numbing. Kind of lemony bitter though, which I assume will be different in a sauce. I'll find out. First, in response to the reviews who mention that these are cracked and will lose potency Sichuan Peppercorns are NOT actually a peppercorn, and are not related to the black peppercorns you are familiar with. They are a berry from the prickly ash tree, in the citrus family. When the berry dries, it opens up and releases an inedible seed, which is removed during processing. Also, the numbing is also part of the deal and apparently part of the appeal, which supposedly supresses the heat, allowing you to taste the other nuances of the spice. I haven't tried these yet, but while it seemed like a good value (and I can share a bottle with someone) I was dissapointed that the "Best By" date was listed as MM/DD/YYYY, rather than an actual date. So I have no idea when these were packed and how old they really are. I will try them this week, and will update my review to include the freshness and taste.

Much better quality than it appears. The corns are cracked in half, which tends to hasten their loss of taste. That said, they can be used right away without cracking. They also retain a very sharp Szechuan flavor. Would definitely order again.
