Led Zeppelin lives through 'Thor: Ragnarok'
Besides being a movie that my pre-teenage son thoroughly enjoys, for me the price of admission is worth it even if only for listening to Led Zeppelin's 'The Immigrant Song', which contains the lyrics "the hammer of the gods/will drive our ships to new lands", appearing twice! Certainly, one of the superior movies from the Marvel Universe!

Best Movie Ever? Possibly.
Fantastic director (Taika Waititi) makes the already pretty good Thor franchise way more watchable. Superhero action? Yes, but also really funny. Jeff Goldblum? C'mon! In fact, a whole stellar cast, including Cate Blanchett. If you haven't seen this one, give it a try. It's worth buying because you will want to watch it multiple times.

Great Movie!
I don't like comic books or comic book characters at all, but I loved this movie. For me, everyone did a fabulous job with his or her role, and there was no weak link. I loved Chris Hemsworth as Thor, loved Tom Hiddleston as Loki, loved Idris Elba as Heimdall, loved Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, and I especially loved Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. He provided so much humor. For those who are sentimental, there's Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Just fabulous, gorgeous scenes with his sons. The women, too, were fabulous. I generally don't like Cate Blanchett at all, but she was great as Hera, and unrecognizable. Beautiful Tessa Thompson was terrific as the Valkyrie warrior, Scrapper 142 (she needs a serious love interest). I could go on and on, but suffice to say, everyone brought his or her best to this movie. There are no weak spots in this film, no chance to refill your soft drink or grab a snack. Do that before you put the DVD in the player. It's almost non-stop action. And, best of all, at least for me, is that it has off-the-cuff comedy, especially between Ruffalo and Hemsworth.I think it's important to note that you don't have to be a fan of comic books or even Scandinavian mythology to understand and love this movie. I wasn't. Oh, I did know some mythology, and I brushed up a little on it before watching this, but it's certainly not my forte, nor is it required. This is a movie for everyone, of every age. If you're looking for a great family night movie, this would fill the bill nicely. No gratuitous sex scenes, no excessive violence (but a lot of fighting), and no stream of swearing. I don't think I remember any swear words. Kudos to the writers.Bottom line: This is a movie I think people who love action will enjoy, people who love mythology will enjoy, people who love comic book heroes will enjoy, and people who love comedy will enjoy. There is really nothing to dislike in this movie. As I said, I am not a comic book or mythology fan at all, and I enjoyed this movie. I wouldn't want to watch one every day, or even every week, but I'm very glad I watched this one last night.

Actio, humour.

A technical marvel and a damn good film
Ok I've not watched a lot of 3D but this is the best I have ever seen. The clarity was stunning - I always thought there was some sacrifice made when converting to 3D, but the colours, contrasts and various 3D depths were spectacular. My eyes never strained and there was a whole bunch of "in the box" and "out of the box" stuff going on. A technical marvel.I didn't think this would be my type of film and I'm tiring of all the "me too" super hero films coming out. How wrong I was! A brilliant mash up of heroes, villains, mythology, sci-fi, dark humour and outright laughs. This is no comedy but some of the quips are brilliant. Texas had me giggling like a schoolboy. This is one of those "turn your brain off and let it happen" films and I was engaged for every second. Not only thoroughly entertaining but also a masterclass in how 3D should be done. We can't let this format slip away when it can be this good. I love 4K, but spacial effects are a completely different type of "Wow!". Just look at the VR boom - that's not going to slip away.If you're a Game of Thrones fan you might have moments of deja vu watching this. Nothing overtly ripped off, I just had moments of familiarity - not a bad thing at all. Some of the battle scenes were as epic as any GOT scene, albeit without the nudity and gore.Audio rarely gets a mention - it was really good. Everything from Led Zeppelin to 80s synth, great Dolby 7.1/DTS-HD 7.1 surround sound, voices never drowned out by ridiculously loud background music. I rarely needed to adjust the volume for "good neighbour" purposes. To quote thesoundarchitect web site:"Overall, Thor: Ragnarok was a fantastic film and Taika Waititi has really set the standard for how a Marvel film should be. The casting was fantastic, and the story had all the necessary peaks and troughs to qualify as a superhero movie, whilst never verging on being too serious. The audio progressed and evolved in perfect sync with the plot points. It ensured it was always there to provide glue or enhance dynamic where it was needed, and had a killer soundtrack to boot."I don't know what Taika did exactly, but please do it again.

A staggerinly inventive, exciting and funny purchase - best seen in 4K
Thor has always been presented with a degree of daft humour. The first movie built in several hubris-busting moments where he would make absurd declarations and get cut short or put in his place while trying to earn back his hammer and his father's respect. The second had the very amusing and pomposity busting presence of Jane Foster's team, and a rarely-better Loki. After the slightly grim style and rather dull bad guys of Thor - The Dark World', 'Ragnarok' pushes things to a whole new level.Waititi brings us a genuine Action-comedy.Don't be scared by that, because although I was a little anxious about what to expect, he has a deft hand at blending violence with comedy, and serious notes abound among the levity. The story is fairly simple: Thor returns from the chaotic nine realms to realism something is amiss at home, and an ensuing major plot development (that I won't spoil) then unleashes Hela, the Goddess of Death upon Asgard. Kate Blanchett revels in the camp villainy of the role, dripping theatrical menace and bad-girl style as she tries to seize Asgard against a torrent of resistance. Meanwhile Thor and Loki end up trapped on another world, with Thor facing gladiatorial games reminiscent of ancient Rome at the hands of Jeff Goldblum's quirky 'Grandmaster'. Here, in this blazingly colourful, 80's hued setting, the film enters comedy territory even further with a wealth of brilliantly memorable characters too numerous to list. Suffice it to say that Thor's adventures here hold the interest just as well as the rest of the movie, and we get emotional moments, heroic moments and brilliant fights, as well as some character-advancing scenes. The comedy is fast, brilliant and often a little lewd, and is intercut with visually astonishing battles and epic moments. All of the characters get the kind of hero-strut moments that send a tingle down your spine, and Waititi proves talented at sneaking in emotional character development amidst action and humour with a deft hand. Some folks may struggle with just how excessive and humorous the film becomes, but it amply rewards viewers who relax into its craziness and enjoy the ride. Breathtaking, retina-scorchingly beautiful (that 'heavenly' battle image!!!), mind-bogglingly inventive with its visuals and approach, you may not see another sequel this brave and exotic for the rest of the decade. The years must-have purchase.
