Revelatory
I really enjoyed this book which has taught me to respect plants as being so much more than I had imagined. I have recently (over the last few years) been realising how much more there is to learn about animals, including, birds, and their communication skills. This book has added plants to the list. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the natural world. The only criticism I have is that, at times, the prose becomes too wordy, when simplicity of expression could have better served my understanding; that is the only reason I have stopped at four stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Cabaret of Plants which was a combination ...
I received this book as a Christmas present after I'd seen an article about it in a magazine. I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Cabaret of Plants which was a combination of fact and myth I loved the vegetable lamb. There were illustrations dotted around which I thought complimented the book. Being an avid gardener this book was entertaining and informative. I'd not come across Richard Mabey before but will definitely check out his other works. If you enjoy finding out about the history of plants and trees this book is for you. It's easy to dip in and out.

Insightful and rewarding
I was a bit sceptical that something as obviously episodic as this could be rewarding. I was wrong. Richard Mabey does a great job of enthusing us with his enthusiasm for plants and the interactions we've had with them over the centuries. He's a fine lyrical and critical narrator, the poetic insights balancing the salutary warnings in just the right way. It's an entertaining and an insightful read. I would've enjoyed it at twice the length - though that might have challenged the author's ingenuity.Highly recommended.

Heavy and uncomfortable book, but good content
This book is so heavy and the pages reflect the light, making the greyish ink (must be fashionable, but not so great to read) not so legible. Having said that, I have just started flicking through it and I am enjoying the contents. Will update once I get further.

"Plants are also fun and feisty and I hope this book celebrates that
THE AUTHOR COnCLUDED HIS INTRODUCTION WITH ..."Plants are also fun and feisty and I hope this book celebrates that, as well as their gift to us of different models of being alive. AN OBSERVATION WHICH HE TRULY FULFILLED !!!

Disappointing read
I was disappointed in this book. It has many interesting facts about the history of plants. However I found Richard Mabey's style of writing difficult to read. I felt as if I was reading a school text book. In addition I think that the book could have been better illustrated. It would have brought the plants to life if we could have had a lit more photographs.
