Works awesome for opening 5 gallon buckets.

I have started a small handmade soap business. I'm not big enough to buy the large drums of oil, so I buy oil in 5-8 gallon buckets. When my first bucket arrived, it took 30 minutes to get the lid off with the screwdriver method. I was so aggravated by the time, I got the lid off, I was ready to find another business model. (kidding, not kidding).... I ordered this tool after reading the reviews. I considered the less expensive plastic options but I'm so glad I went with this tool. It's very durable. The high quality will last me a lifetime. It was strong enough to open the next bucket easy peasy and without a fight. This product is a MUST HAVE if you need to open 5-8 gallon buckets effortlessly.

Works with several items!

So - I bought this tool to assist with opening your typical 5 gal lid. In the process of ordering and receiving this opener, fulfillment missed this item in the process of preparing shipment - no hassle, Amazon fixed that problem without any fanfare - great job, Amazon. In terms of this tool it seems it would open typical bug-box provided 5 gal bucket lids… but I had a hell of a time opening an older, more solidly built/heavier plastic bucket lid I had… so it’s for this reason I gave it 4 stars - mostly for lack of leverage and basic ergonomic lack of mechanical advantage. I even followed the diagrams for opening the lid printed right on it… but it was a real bear to remove that lid, and though the tool assisted in removal, it was with great chore and effort that it did. To reiterate - materials seem not a problem - for me it’s the engineering. This can handle, as I alluded to, most lighter weight 5 gal plastic bucket tops, especially smaller buckets… like your 2.5 gal varieties - but didn’t really shine when faced with a heavier duty bucket lid. Tool is better than “okay” - hence the four. (Amazon gets “5” for correcting their snafu though). Hope this review helps you.

I bought this to remove the cap from 5 Gallon WATER BOTTLES. It works GREAT! My poor arthritic hands could not open these. I have to use vice grips to pull the tab, then I was using channel locks for leverage, but had to try multiple times to get the cap off. This tool works the first time.

My wife loves this. Makes taking kids off 5-gallon buckets very easy. We love the hammer on it to put the lids back on.
