Make sure your surface is horizontal!

On our motorhome dash, which is almost horizontal, it sits quite nicely and the slot holds the phone well for using its satnav. However, we planned to use the other in our car where the dash is at more of an angle. It is absolutely useless with hardly any grip and it just falls off. We have other mats which grip very well but we were hoping the slot is this one would be worth having.
