This is what I call an ice cream container.
Bummer. Just bought one of those ice cream makers that have the cooling compressor built in: Whynter ICM-200LS Stainless Steel Ice Cream Maker, 2.1-Quart, Silver After making a few batches, we realized we 0needed a better storage alternative than regular Tupperware or my wife's salad storage container. So, while we were still within the 30 day return window on the ice cream machine, we decided to get a couple of these storage containers (different colors to differentiate flavors). These things are really great. We've made a number of recipes that made exactly 1.5 quarts of ice cream. Fit in these containers perfectly. So, the test was getting ice cream back out of the container. Just left them sit on the counter without the lid for about 10 minutes. Perfect. The rubber or whatever bottoms keep the container from sliding at all. Too, the narrowness of the container allows a perfect scoop from one end to the other. So, what part of my review is a bummer? Well, since the ice cream machine looks as if it will be a keeper (barring it breaking down over the next two weeks), we are now short of enough containers. If I had enough confidence that the ice cream maker was going to be a keeper, I would have bought the four pack container offering. So, guess I'll be using two of these containers, some Tupperware, and a salad container. Anyone considering making a bunch of ice cream and wanting to have a variety of storage containers, go ahead and opt for the four-pack. You won't regret it. Update 5/24/18 I was so enamored with these containers that I went ahead and purchased the two additional colors I didn't get on my first purchase. I only make 1.5 quarts of ice cream in my machine to keep it from spewing over the top of my 2.1 quart bucket. So, this 1.5 quart container is perfect. Heck, most ice cream sold in stores today has downsized to 1.5 quarts anyway. Clean up is pretty easy as well. Prefer to hand wash as I can accomplish that in a couple of minutes as opposed to a 3 hour dishwasher cycle. I'm making so much ice cream, need to keep these containers working for me. Churn, churn, churn, eat, eat, eat. Rinse and repeat. Edit 3/25/21 Had one of my outer shells develop a long crack. No idea as to how it occurred. Freezer too cold, hot water while cleaning cold plastic, sitting on counter. Absolutely no idea. Just spotted the crack as it was sitting in the freezer. Noticed that Sumo has a 100% guaranteed lifetime warranty. Contacted them and sure enough they provided a replacement unit right away. I mean next day. Amazing. I really like this company and their products. We've been using these containers (5) for nearly three years now and they have performed flawlessly.

Perfect for Home Made Ice Cream
Likes -> various colors are available which are helpful when storing several ice cream creations, insulated on sides and bottom which keep product in excellent condition when storing in a chest/upright freezer that does not use a defrost cycle and transporting containers to a neighbor's house, stays upright when placed on the counter, easy to scoop ice cream out of using a traditional ice scream scooper, top rack dishwasher safe, quality product, tight fitting inner and outer sections. I have six of these containers and I may order a couple more because I have been making a lot of ice cream this Summer (taking advantage of the fresh fruit as it ripens) and have been giving away my creations to my friends in these containers and they've been slow to return the containers. These containers also nicely stack in the freezer without taking up a lot of unused space. Dislike -> only one - it's very difficult to separate the outer and inner sections of the base container. While this is a good thing because it provides excellent insulation, I like to separate the sections after use for a thorough cleaning. I have found that I can best separate the sections by running hot water over the exterior shell for a minute, then running cold water in the inner shell for a couple seconds, I then try to loosen the sections at the ends. It's not easy but it seems to be the best way for me.

Fits A Whole Batch From 4 Cups of Base
Except for the brand name on the lid, this Sumo 1.5 quart ice cream tub is identical to the Tovolo one I bought at the same time. I love them both -- and two is a good number to have on hand, especially if you like to have a couple of flavor choices in your refrigerator. Other than the brand, the other difference between the two is that Sumo claims it is dishwasher-safe while Tovolo says theirs is not; I find that strange since the materials, texture, and construction appear to be the same. The tub measures 11" long by 4" wide by 4.25" high and, while that won't fit into every freezer door or "jam-packed" freezer, it is an efficient use of container space. When I first received this tub, I was afraid that it was going to be too small for the contents of my Cuisinart ICE-100 compressor machine. Not so. It's perfect. Although it looks visually small, it really hold a full 1.5 quarts of ice cream made from about 4 cups of base. The container comes apart for easy cleaning and hand-washing; I haven't attempted to stick this in the dishwasher. The insulated layer between the outside and the inner container helps keep the ice cream from melting as quickly when out of the freezer, and that's important when the long shape potentially exposes the greater surface area to ambient temperatures. I do stick mine in the freezer a few hours before I churn to give me some extra time when transferring the newly frozen ice cream into its container. The lid doesn't snap in place, although it does stay on. I love that I can run my KitchenAid scoop across the surface to create a nice ball of ice cream. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Decent containers, but could be better
I got these thinking they would be great for storing my homemade ice cream. It's great for the size and fits in the freezer well. My ice cream stays fresh, but I honestly hate scooping my ice cream out of these. I thought it was suppose to be easier to scoop, but I have the worst time, especially when I get below half way. I usually have to grab a spoon to get the ice cream out, because my scoop just won't grab it. My scoop works fine in other containers, but I just think it's too narrow or something. Not sure.

Really protects ice cream from freezer burn. Shape is ideal for the perfect scoop.
Do you really need a special container for ice cream? Yes ! Make it this 3 piece, perfectly shaped container. Using this has made a believer out of me. It really does protect ice cream from freezer burn, and the elongated narrow shape is ingenious—so easy to make the perfect scoop in one motion**. No more partial shards of ice cream dished from a “short” container that stops the scooping motion. Added bonus of the shape of this container is the space saving footprint, perfect for a packed-to-the-gills freezer. I chose this 3 piece container because it is EZ to clean. I saw another similarly shaped container on Amazon, but it could not be taken apart for cleaning. That was an important consideration for me bcuz our homemade ice cream is not cooked (no eggs), thus, its almost like a raw food, where hygiene and storage are very important. One last point...as with any frozen dessert, make sure to place a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap on the top surface of the ice cream, then cover the container with the tight fitting lid. The sealed surface is an important step in preventing freezer burn. I am impressed with the quality and design of the SUMO products I own so far. They are made of top quality materials, they are expertly designed to make them practical, durable and EZ to use. The pieces I received were packaged with thought and care—nice enough to give as gifts. SUMO stands for quality. **I highly recommend the SUMO chisel point full metal handle that spans the entire length Ice Cream Scoop for an EZ glide to that perfect scoop. It’s quality you will recognize as soon as you see it IRL and when you put it in your hand. https://www.amazon.com/SUMO-Stainless-Steel-Cream-Scoop/dp/B00PTSTST2

Homemade Ice Cream's Best Friend
If you make your own ice cream, you need to buy these containers. I absolutely love these containers, and it makes storing them in the freezer easy. I used to used the ice cream containers from the ones I purchased at the store, and since they were all different shapes and sizes, my freezer was a mess. These containers are the right shape to not only give you that ice cream parlor scoop you need for your ice cream cone but allows you to store it neatly in an organized manner. They are also easy to store in your pantry. Yes, I like an organized pantry, freezer, etc. These containers stacked up when not in use make your pantry look nice and organized. In addition, these are great for transporting if you make ice cream to bring to family functions or just to give to others. Make no mistake, I always tell them to give me back my container or else they won't get any more ice cream. This is a great investment if you make your own ice cream or need to transport it to a family event. I no longer buy ice cream at the store just to keep the container or buy cheap plastic containers to store my ice cream. I would buy these again if I ever needed more or if somehow they were broken, which would take a person literally dropping it with all their might to break. Heck. That might not even do it. These things are very sturdy. Your ice cream would love these containers, so buy it.

Excellent Ice Cream Containers
We have been making ice cream at home for a while now and have had at least one of these containers from almost the beginning. We started putting the ice cream into Pyrex bowls then into the freezer but this wasn't very convenient. I bought one of these and it made all the difference. First, they stack well in the door of our freezer. This frees up a lot of space and also keeps the ice cream toward the warmer part of the freezer, keeping it a little soft. If your ice cream does get a bit hard, the shape of these containers makes it easy to scoop out layer-by-layer. You just run the scoop in a shallow path along the length of the container and you get a nice scoop every time. The bottom of the container is rounded so you don't have to dig around or use pointy objects to get the last bits of deliciousness out. These containers are the perfect size for us to make a batch of ice cream in our kitchenaid ice cream maker, fill one container, and have enough for the family to each have a bowl. Our old ice cream maker was a little smaller, the type you buy at the local department store, and a whole batch fit perfectly into these containers. They are plastic so I would hand wash them for safety but the slick surface makes this super easy.

Perfect for what I need and excellent customer service
When it comes down to it; a product may be good but its customer service makes it great, and this is the case with SUMO. So, first off the product itself....I bought two of the 1.5qt containers for homemade sorbet / ice cream. The container is a "double wall" type container. The inner container can be removed from the outer container for easy cleaning and I'm guessing it stops condensation from forming as well. Another little "nice thing to have" is the rubber base that keeps the container in place when scooping. So, for me this is the perfect container now that we're making sorbet / sherbert / ice cream etc at home. Second, one of the lids was slightly warped so it would not seal the container completely. I called customer service, who, without hesitation, sent me a replacement tub. I only needed the lid but they sent an entire new container. I wasn't trying to get something for nothing, so when you stand behind your product without question, that makes me your customer every time I need a product like this and I will tell others the same (which is the point of this review). Folks; the product is a good product; right priced and they stand behind their product. If this is what you're looking for, spend your money here.
