Best tool for 4.0 timing jobs
Needed to do a timing job on my Ford 4.0 and was looking at another brand for much less. One review said the other tool puts the cams a couple of degrees off. If you know Fords, they are picky on cam timing. Decided to buy this one instead and it worked great. Well worth the extra money to have the timing job set perfect. This is the only tool I would recommend for this complex timing job.

Great tool but bad Ford design on engines,
just what I ordered making my job on my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0 THANK YOU ( even though Ford sure did screw over customers when they find out the timing chain and gears only last until about 100,000 miles or less mine went out at around 97000 miles BAD product FORD or bad design.) Carl Lush a life long Ford man now going to Chevy. PS I'm 65 years old and love doing my own main. on my vic. but don't like having to buy spec. tools just for cert. Ford vic.

so it is easy to identify which tool goes where an the specific ...
well made tool set. The case has part numbers cast into it, so it is easy to identify which tool goes where an the specific tool you are looking for, when reading directions. What I found is when rebuilding the Ford V6 4.0 SOHC, before installing the heads, line the number 1 piston up at top dead center. It is possible to leave it there through the installation process. When installing the cams on the heads, install them at the setting corresponding to the position they are to occupy when number 1 piston is at TDC. I found that doing this, I did not have to use the tools to line up the timing chains, cams, etc. It was dead on when checked. Just used the tools necessary to hold the cams in place while tightening the bolts that mounted the gears onto the cams. Putting several of the flywheel bolts into the back of the crankshaft, then placing a large screwdriver across and between the bolts allowed the crank to be locked still which kept the cams from rotating. This allowed a couple of bolts to be torqued down without having to use the full tool set every time.

Worth the money, you need this tool to do the job right.
Like many a shade tree mechanic, I thought I could make the repairs without some "special tool". I was wrong. After making the repairs the first time without the kit I found the engine out of time even after taking the precautions to avoid it. Well, needless to say I broke down and bought the kit. After taking all morning to tear down the engine "again", I installed the kit and had it back in time within 30 minutes. Yes, with some basic mechanical knowledge it is that simple to use. After putting the engine back together, and 10 hours of my Saturday shot the engine now runs like a top. Don't be stubborn, spend the extra money and buy this kit, It will save you a world of grief and regret. Besides that, I was able to resell the kit on eBay within an hour of listing the item for nearly as much as I paid for it.

Worked as described!
Just used this product for timing a 2008 Ford Ranger 4.0 after a LH cylinder head rebuild due to a bad valve. The parts seem to be very well made. The included bolts that fit without any problems. All included tools fit as described. All the basic parts you need are included. I was impressed. It would of been painful to do the job without this product.

You get what you pay for
Works perfectly unlike the two cheap ones I purchased before and broke before the job was done

Wouldn’t tackle this job without it
The first time I have done a 4.0 litre and I wouldn’t want to try without this tool. Engine fired right up and runs perfect. Worth the investment but sadly I’ll probably never use it again. May sell on auction site
