Useful tool for intermediate learners
This is a used tool for intermediate learners. Some of the idioms I might not use as potentially regional variations but useful to be able to recognise them in real conversations. Pace is good as it accelerates to real french speakers pace which the other courses before this rightly slow for comprehension. I personally think this is best if you have done all other courses in the Michel Thomas stable first otherwise it might be too advanced if it is your first attempt at an intermediate course. As others have said, it doesn’t work with my kindle but it works very well with my iPhone so there appears to be problems with android. But the cost of the kindle version is much much cheaper than the cd version

IS THIS REALLY BASED ON THE MICHEL THOMAS METHOD ? WELL, I COULD HAVE BEEN FOOLED!
I am surprised that this course claims to be a Michel Thomas method course. I have used the ORIGINAL Michel Thomas' method courses in French, German, and Spanish for both their Beginners/Intermediary and advance courses, as well as his language builders courses. With Michel Thomas, from my understanding, his approach is that it should be easy for the student and the student is NEVER supposed to try to remember Michel Thomas even said in his original language CD courses that the responsibility of getting the student to remember is up to the teacher. In this French course, it was nothing of the sort, not to me anyway. This CD was pretty advanced BUT the conversation text script did not have an English translation. It seemed to assume the student already knew how to speak French colloquially, and the course was only there to “touch up” a few words and terms you did not know. If so, that would be ridiculous, if we did know colloquial French, why would we be learning that course at all?I felt that the teacher (who was not Michel Thomas) in the CD did not guide the student through the course enough , and I was left behind sometimes by him. Michel Thomas never did that to me in his original courses! Unlike the original Michel Thomas' courses, as a student, sometimes, I could not follow let alone understand and remember what was being taught. What was more, I found that in the CD, when I played it, the sector which was displayed on the CD player did not correspond with what the announcer said in the CD. For example, what it showed on the CD player window to be 2.05, the announcer said it was 2.3.2 , and when it was 2.06, he said it was 2.3.7 . And so on. That for me, was quite confusing. If you stopped your course to continue the next day, it was not easy to find where you left off.My level of French is not as fluent as a local Frenchman, but I have been learning French for quite a good number of years, and I have even attended advanced French conversation classes. I also try to improve my French by regularly watching news and documentary programmes on TV5-Monde and France24 television channels. Even that, I found this course to be tough and I thought this course was just for intermediate level !When I first read the text of the conversations, I did not understand it as some of the conversations did not make any sense to me. Without that, I would be lost in knowing what the speakers were saying.I only managed to understand it after I went onto the internet and used the internet translation online on Google to translate the French text to English . There was not that much in the course which would help me apart from giving a few difficult words , or terms ,which were translated into English. If I were to depend on the course alone, I would have been completely "lost"! I think this course could do with a few more extra “stepping stones” to help students along the way in the lessons. If the course have the conversational French text script accompanied with a translated English version, that would have helped immensely! What was more, unlike the Michel Thomas course I knew, I had to try VERY HARD TO REMEMBER, and I had to listen again and again. The next day, if I do not listen again , I would forget it. Now, how can this be even close to Michel Thomas’ approach in teaching this language?Having said that, if you perservere, listen to it every day, use Google to translate the conversational text script, and NOT just depend on what is provided in the course but look elsewhere to assist you, you could probably improve over time. One “good” thing about this course is that you would be really “immersed” into speaking French. What was more, their discussion topics were not quite the run-of-the-mill topics you’d find in standard language courses. That was quite interesting. You also get to learn speak French in a colloquial manner.I bought this CD/Book course based on the claim it is the Michel Thomas method. And as I thought I knew what the Michel Thomas method was, I bought it. To me, this CD/Book course felt like a DIFFERENT METHOD rather than a Michel Thomas method. This course ,for me, is quite a STRUGGLE. Unlike the original Michel Thomas courses, it did not percolate naturally by just listening effortlessly.PS: Another thing, the booklets which came with the original Michel Thomas language courses were printed with quality glossy paper, the paper quality of the booklet that came with this course is of a poorer quality paper. The interactive CD Rom which I had did not seem to work properly, when I pressed the “INTERACTIVE EXERCISES” link, only a blank red page with no words came up! For those reasons, I am giving this course book/CD 2-stars instead of 3-stars.

A real intermediate course with real conversations
This is an excellent course. It is not based on MT method though. It covers great deal of French, which I am finding quite challenging. There is literally hundreds of hours studying available here, if you really want to crack. It would be a very daunting course if you have only done MT French ( I've done foundation, advanced & language builder already ).As other reviewers have stated, audio doesn't work on Android nor older Kindles, also not available on Teach Yourself website, hence only 4*

Exactly what intermediate level French learners need
There are not that many materials for intermediate level learners available, and none I've found that are as good as this. If you want to understand French people in how they talk and what they talk about - this is the course for you. It's not slowed down - it prepares you for the real experience. However, through a build up of language and repetition of core language, you will acquire the language naturally. It doesn't model other Michel Thomas courses, except that it's audio based and builds up your language. The author's voice is so melodic and lovely - it's a bit like meditation - so it makes it really enjoyable to listen to.I have a good level of French but haven't practiced in years and this is just what I needed to build up on my skills and refine my French. If you have studied French, are looking to get back into it, or simply want a good speaking/listening course, I highly recommend it.There is a book that goes with it, which is a great reference, but I relied mostly on the audio on its own as it's easy to just upload to my iphone.

Possibly above intermediate for the average learner
Make sure you have well and truly learned the basics !!

Worse than useless
What's not made clear at any point in the product description is that the audio content, the main reason for purchase, is not compatible with kindle for Android. So all you're getting is a thin book of advice that's only a revelation if you don't get the chance to speak regularly and conversationally with French people. So, to me, useless at every level. I asked for my money back.

You will need a mp3 cd player to use this product and not sure about getting it on to ipod/ipad re special mp3 writer?
I am just about to return the second copy of this Michel Thomas course. Be aware it is a mp3 cd so since I do not have one this is extra expense, also it will not load onto my Imac from my cd/dvd reader/writer so possible more expense. So, after having the first copy since just before Christmas I have not been able to gleen anything to pass judgement on the content - so proceed with caution before buying!
