This device seems to be effective, but it isn’t always intuitive. The switch is a bit hard to understand which mode it is in. The buttons are for the high frequency noise, a beep, and the flashlight. It would be helpful if there was a tactile differentiation between the three of them so you don’t have to look. As for the high frequency, it is difficult to tell if it is always working.

Everyone wants a magic wand to make their dog a model citizen, quiet and obedient, and this device is NOT a magic wand. It does, however, get the dog's attention... at first. I have a dachshund, and this breed is notoriously stubborn about training. Mostly he's a good boy, but he barks every time Amazon delivers packages (which is too often for my own good), and I want that to stop. The trouble is, once he's barking, it's very difficult to get his attention with regular training methods. This device DID get his attention for about the first three times I used it in a training session. After that, he pretty much ignored it. After he started ignoring the high pitched noise, I tried the middle setting for the variable sound. It worked *once*, then it received the same "ignore" response as the other noise. The flashlight works nicely, but a flashlight isn't going to change a dog's behavior. The dog did not care a whit about the audible "beep" from the middle button. The top button definitely causes a noise beyond my hearing range (dog tilted his head immediately), but after he figured out where it came from, he just ignored it. It might be me - certainly, I need practice to get the right words out at the right time and have a treat ready for the desired response - but I feel that this device over-promised and was disappointing.Another thing I'm not thrilled with is the size of this thing. It is literally as big as a short flashlight, so carrying it around in your pocket all day is awkward (if you even have a pocket big enough, or a pocket at all). If you don't carry it in your pocket, you won't have it nearby in most cases when you need it. I do like that the slider on the side allows you to turn it all the way off so you don't accidentally keep pressing the button for the inaudible tone in your pocket without knowing it. However, then it takes twice as long to fumble it out of your pocket, turn it on, and hit the button when the dog is barking.Overall, I think the level of success you have with this will depend on your ability to train and your individual dog's response. If your dog absolutely hates the noise, you may have more success, but who wants a dog who cowers just because you have it in your hand? I don't feel that's a healthy response either. Either way, it's not a magic wand that will magically make your dog fully trained.

I tried this for both training a dog that barked a lot and on the two neighbors I've had several talks with about the incessant barking. One neighbor has 3 dogs and the other 5. None of them are licensed as I've heard the owners saying we better lock them in the house because they aren't registered. Needless to say, with the holes in the fence I was able to get direct line of sight when they barked for over 5 minutes. Didn't do a thing. I ended up purchasing a self activating 15 - 30khz anti barker and within 3 weeks, more than half of the issues have stopped. It may work on some dogs, but the smaller breeds it falls short.

I have to shih tzu that love to bark at anything and everything. No matter the time or the location. But they are very happy and very spunky. I have heard that apparatus like this could change a dog and I was afraid of that. My oldest one just turned 4 and no matter what I tried he was just not getting it. Often woke up in the middle of the night because he heard a dog bark 5 house down. or our ring camera alarm went off. or simple someone walking by. So I got this gadget. It has surprised me to my core. I have used this item about 5 times since I got it. Honest to got it has been about 5 and my dogs have changed drastically. I am so happy with this. I did read the reviews and follow a few suggestions that were given and they worked. The 1st thing is I don't let them see me when I press the button. I don't want them to see where it is coming from and who is pushing it. Next before I press the button, I shhh them. This will associate the sound with the noise and when I don't press the button they will know that shhh means quiet. I don't use it for anything else other than the barking. I only use the ultrasonic sound and like I said, I have only used it a few times and I am already very happy with it. We travel often and we always take them with us, but sometimes its hard to stay at hotels because of the barking. Luckily we haven't had any issues but solving the problem would be a better option. Plus I don't feel that they rest as they are always on guard. I am truly happy with this product and even more knowing that the only thing that changed in my dogs it the barking as they are still as spunky as they have always been. My dog is a notorious barker and leaves, people walking, and just people breathing outside of our home. If my dog doesn't stop after the first warning, this device gets her to stop and come to me quickly.
